CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college offering associate and bachelor’s degree programs in downtown Brooklyn, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as a College Laboratory Technician (CLT) in the Dental Hygiene Department to begin during the Fall 2026 semester. This position will focus on all aspects associated with operating a dental hygiene clinic and dental radiology and dental materials laboratory.

The Dental Hygiene department has a full-time faculty of eight, as well as an engaged group of adjunct instructors, a senior CLT, and administrative support staff. It offers an Associate in Applied Science degree (AAS) in Dental Hygiene, a two-year full-time program with a comprehensive curriculum encompassing all aspects of Dental Hygiene. The Dental Hygiene program at NYCCT is accredited by Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and therefore is bound to ensure the educational quality is consistent with the written CODA standards.

The College Laboratory Technician will be required to understand and implement the set-up, maintenance, and organization of the dental hygiene department’s laboratories, supply rooms, and equipment. The CLT will also be expected to cultivate open lines of communication with faculty, administrators and the college’s business office as it pertains to budget, equipment and consumable requisitions, procurement, and inventory management of equipment and supplies for all offered courses.

The CLT will provide support to the teaching faculty and adjunct CLTs under the direction of the Senior CLT and the Department Chairperson. The CLT is expected to become an active member of a team, exert cooperative effort, and exhibit a collaborative and helpful attitude with all members of the department and the college.

The College Laboratory Technician’s duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Ensure set up, proper operation, maintenance, and organization of dental hygiene department laboratories.
  • Assist faculty with setting up learning exercises and with use of equipment and materials in laboratories.
  • Communicate with relevant vendors to troubleshoot classroom, laboratory, and clinical software issues.
  • Set up radiographic sensors and troubleshoot sensor failures.
  • Work collaboratively with the Senior CLT to budget and manage purchases and inventories of supplies and equipment.
  • Under the supervision or the directive from the Senior CLT, coordinate equipment installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Communicate regularly with the Senior CLT, Faculty, Chairperson, Dean’s office and Business office to meet departmental needs.
  • Input purchase requests under the supervision of the Senior CLT.
  • Maintain all aspects of infection control and quality assurance.
  • Assist the Chairperson and designated full-time faculty members with Infection control compliance program.
  • As requested, attend The Greater New York Dental Meeting and other regional/national/international trade shows and conferences to keep abreast of new products and industry trends.

Weekend or evening hours may be required, as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Associate in Applied Sciences (AAS) degree in Dental Hygiene
  • 5+ years of clinical experience as a dental hygienist
  • Ability to set-up, maintain and organize dental hygiene clinical, radiology, and dental materials laboratories, and the skills and experience to utilize clinical and laboratory software to provide support to faculty and students
  • Knowledge and experience with current dental hygiene materials, dental hygiene instruments (Hand and Ultrasonic), processes, and e-chart technologies and software (DentiMax)
  • Knowledge of all phases of infection control and quality assurance as delineated by the Center for Disease Control for the Dental Environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet the needs of faculty, students, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and apply instructional manuals and manufacturer’s instructions for equipment used in dental hygiene education
  • Experience with budgeting and procurement, and ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite applications to administer and track day-to-day departmental operations for inventory control and budget tracking
  • Ability to troubleshoot clinical or laboratory software issues and to leverage vendor technical support as needed
  • Ability to lift materials and equipment up to 50 lbs

COMPENSATION

$61,871 to $70,198. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
