The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) operates under the General Office (GO) located in Santa Fe, NM. As a vital entity within the Information Technology (IT) Division, we are committed to ensuring the smooth functioning of technological infrastructure and support systems essential for the state's transportation operations.
Why does the job exist?
The College Undergraduate Intern will help our team to ensure the reliability, efficiency, and performance of the agency's technology systems that support statewide transportation services. This role supports a fast-paced IT environment critical to delivering safe, innovative, and effective transportation solutions across New Mexico. The position provides front line technical support to employees statewide, resolving issues and maintaining optimal system functionality. The College Undergraduate Intern will also help ensure a seamless and dependable technology experience for all team members while sustaining essential IT operations that enable the agency to serve New Mexico's citizens with excellence.
How does it get done?
The key responsibilities for the IT College Undergraduate Intern will include a Primary Project Focus on OneDrive Migration and Optimization:
The intern will play a key role in the company-wide transition to OneDrive which includes:
Data Migration: Assisting users in moving local files to the cloud.
User Education: Creating documentation to ensure a smooth transition.
Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving sync errors or permission issues during the roll out.
Anticipated Duties and Responsibilities
1. Service Desk and Communication:
Phone Support: Act as the first point of contact for technical inquiries; practice professional phone etiquette and active listening to gather problem details.
Ticket Creation: Accurately log issues into the Helpdesk system, ensuring all relevant hardware and software details are captured.
2. Desktop and Technical Support:
Hardware Troubleshooting: Assist with physical desktop support, including peripheral setups, workstation moves, and basic hardware repairs.
Software Support: Help users navigate common application errors (Office 365, VPN, etc.) through both remote screen-sharing and in-person visits.
3. Knowledge Management / Standard Operating Procedures (SOP):
Knowledge Base (KB) Contribution: Research and write SOPs for the internal KB.
Process Refinement: Identify "pain points" in common user workflows and document clear, step-by-step solutions to reduce future support volume.
4. OneDrive Migration Project:
Execution: Manually assist high-touch users with moving folders (Desktop, Documents, Pictures) to OneDrive.
Quality Assurance: Verify that data integrity is maintained post-move and that folder redirection is functioning correctly.
Reporting: Track migration progress and report any recurring technical roadblocks to the Mentor.

Minimum Qualification
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university OR completion of at least four (4) semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. This position may require lifting and carrying computer equipment, monitors, printers, projectors, screens, and other IT or Audio/Visual (A/V) equipment. This position involves bending, standing, walking, and working in different environments such as offices, conference facilities, warehouses, outdoor locations.
