Commercial Construction Project Manager

A growing commercial construction company serving the Washington, DC metropolitan area is seeking Project Managers various levels of experience to support a portfolio of federal and commercial construction projects. They are looking for motivated professionals who are passionate about construction, thrive in fast-paced environments, and are committed to delivering high-quality projects while building long-term careers.

Projects typically range from $200,000 to over $7,000,000 and include both design-build and bid-build contracts for federal agencies and private sector clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Position Overview

Project management team members will support and lead various aspects of construction projects from pre-construction through closeout. Depending on experience level, responsibilities may include project coordination, estimating, scheduling, subcontractor management, cost control, quality assurance, client relations, and oversight of day-to-day field operations.

This is a full-time position with strong long-term growth opportunities and professional development support.

Work hours are generally Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, with occasional evening or weekend work during busy periods. Travel to project sites throughout the DC Metro area may be required.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary based on experience level and may include:

  • Assisting with bidding, estimating, project startup, planning, scheduling, and closeout activities
  • Supporting and managing RFIs, submittals, procurement, invoicing, contract administration, and project documentation
  • Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and material deliveries
  • Creating and maintaining project schedules using Primavera P6 or MS Project
  • Managing project budgets, cost controls, change orders, and financial reporting
  • Leading project meetings and maintaining communication with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Monitoring jobsite safety, quality control, and compliance with contract requirements
  • Managing federal construction documentation, permits, badging, and access coordination
  • Overseeing project closeout activities including warranties, as-builts, O&M manuals, and turnover documentation
  • Supporting or leading multidisciplinary project teams on federal and commercial construction projects
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting schedule and budget goals

Qualifications

Qualifications will vary depending on the position level.

Assistant Project Manager Candidates

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or related field preferred
  • Internship or entry-level experience in construction management is a plus
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
  • Experience with federal projects is helpful but not required

Project Manager Candidates

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 4–7 years of experience with a commercial or industrial general contractor preferred
  • Experience managing subcontractors, schedules, budgets, and project documentation
  • Knowledge of construction means and methods for commercial and institutional projects
  • Experience with CPM scheduling software, cost control, and change management
  • OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, CQC certification, and related credentials are preferred

Senior Project Manager Candidates

  • 10+ years of experience managing commercial or federal construction projects
  • Strong leadership and project financial management experience
  • Experience managing firm-fixed-price federal design-build and bid-build contracts preferred
  • Ability to oversee multiple large-scale projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of NAVFAC, USACE, WHS, FBI, and other federal agency contract requirements preferred
  • PMP, CCM, DBIA, PE, RA, or related professional certifications are highly desirable
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a security clearance preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, scheduling software, Procore, BlueBeam, and related construction management tools

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required
  • Ability to travel to local project sites as needed
  • Some positions may require physical mobility on active construction sites
