Summary
Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Services, provide instruction in the program. The assignments for this position may include collegiate transfer and pre-collegiate basic skills courses. This position may also include a combination of day, evening, online and/or hybrid teaching assignments. This position may include face-to-face instruction in a prison environment.

All Temporary Part-time Instructors are compensated a flat rate of $70.51 per credit hour taught each semester pursuant to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Selection Process

Supplemental
Instructor(s) will be responsible for developing new curriculum for courses related to a non-credit Commercial Driver’s License program as well as teaching courses after they are developed.

Education and Experience
As per Title 5, Section 53410 of the California Code of Regulations and the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators handbook, the minimum qualifications for this position are:

The standard minimum qualifications for disciplines on this list are;
any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience,
OR any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
As used here, “professional experience” includes teaching experience. “Teaching experience” is defined as serving in the capacity of an instructor responsible for development and delivery of formalized educational content designed to meet established standards in an academic or industry setting. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master’s degree. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment.

Candidates who do not meet the stated minimum qualifications may request consideration through the equivalency process in accordance with District policy and Title 5 regulations. The equivalency process is not intended to raise or lower the minimum qualifications but to recognize alternate methods of achieving qualifications. Licenses and Certificates
Maintain a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in the state of California
Compliance with the requirements of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to receive and maintain gate clearance at California Correctional Facilities to perform duties associated with this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the work performed by this position and are not all inclusive.   • Demonstrate breadth, depth, and currency of knowledge in the discipline through ongoing professional development
  • Maintain accurate records and submit required reports such as grade rosters, attendance documentation, Census, assessment results, early alert, program reviews, etc. in accordance with district procedures and timelines
  • Notify and report absences to the appropriate administrator in accordance with district procedures and collective bargaining agreement
  • Supervising the care and maintenance of equipment provided for student use
  • Directing the work of student workers and/or classified staff as appropriate to the assignment


Part-Time Instructional Faculty Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instruct assigned classes (times, dates, and modality) according to the contract, approved course outline, catalog description, textbooks, and syllabus
  • According to modality (in-person, online, hybrid, hyflex, or correspondence), deliver lectures, facilitate discussions, and guide learning activities
  • Incorporate diverse teaching strategies to support varied learning styles
  • Meet Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) criteria for online modality
  • Implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies as identified in the course outline
  • Provide effective instruction using current andragogical practices and student-centered approaches
  • Design and deliver instruction in multiple modalities (in-person, online, hybrid, hyflex, or correspondence) as assigned
  • Monitor student attendance and performance, utilizing the district-sponsored early alert system to identify students who may need additional support
Course Preparation
  • Create course syllabus according to the modality (in-person, online, hybrid, or correspondence), contract, approved course outline, catalog description, textbooks, etc.
  • Develop course content in accordance with modality (in-person, online, hybrid, or correspondence)
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments
  • Adapt textbooks, readings, and learning resources aligned with course objectives
  • Set clear expectations for assignments, grading, and participation

Assessment and Grading
  • Design and administer quizzes, exams, projects, and other evaluations
  • Grade student work in a timely and fair manner
  • Provide constructive feedback to support student learning and improvement
  • Assess student learning and participate in Student Learning Outcome (SLO) plans and assessment

Student Support
  • Respond to student questions and communications professionally and promptly
  • Meet Regular and Substantive Interactions (RSI) criteria for online modality
  • Refer students to academic support services when appropriate (tutoring, academic counseling, special categorical programs, etc.)

Classroom Management
  • Maintain a respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment
  • Enforce college policies related to attendance, academic integrity, and conduct
  • Address classroom issues or concerns appropriately

Administrative and Compliance Responsibilities
  • Report absences to the appropriate Dean
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress
  • Submit required documentation (syllabi, Census, grades, student learning outcomes, attendance verification, etc.) by contractual obligation
  • Comply with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and FERPA requirements
  • Participate in faculty evaluation processes

Curriculum Alignment
  • Follow department-approved curriculum and learning outcomes
  • Use department-approved textbooks according to the course outline of record

Record Keeping and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and current records of student attendance and student achievement in accordance with district procedures

Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission and values of the California Community Colleges
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds, and with a wide range of skills, motivations, and educational or vocational goals

Working Conditions
  • Work performed primarily in classroom environment at the local campus in Susanville or at an affiliated correctional facility
