Position Overview
As a Commercial Pipefitter, you will be responsible for laying out, assembling, installing and maintaining pipe systems, pipe supports and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial production and processing systems. Areas of concentration: Commercial, Manufacturing and Industrial.
As a Commercial Pipefitter, you will be responsible for the following:
1. Ensure personnel know and understand scope of work.
2. Assist personnel in layout, assembling and installation as required.
3. Keep excess stock at shop reduced as much as possible by using stock on current jobs
4. Process time sheets of personnel under his supervision.
5. Ensure that the piping tools and equipment are in a good operable state of repair.
6. Ability to direct and manage the total activities of projects assigned, ensuring compliance with established company policies and the guidelines and goals as determined by the Mechanical Supervisor and Company mandates.
7. Coordinate material delivery; verify equipment and delivery, quantities and condition thereof.
8. Identify design and specification conflicts; Resolve issues as required.
9. Coordinate all schedule changes/project issues with affected activities
10. Provide sketches for piping to facilitate fabrication and installation as needed; maintain record drawings (as-builts).
11. Ensure personnel are briefed on the Project Safety Action Plan and attend Monday morning tool box talks as well as safety meetings and briefings.
12. Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
13. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
14. Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
15. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
16. Cut, thread and hammer pipe to specs using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders and benders.
17. Assemble related equipment according to specifications by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering and threading joints.
18. Attach piping using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment.
19. Inspect, examine and test installed systems.
20. Measure for cutting and threading.
21. Layout piping systems following blueprints and according to specifications.
22. Select piping materials according to specifications.
23. Cutting and patching.
24. Modify, clean and maintain pipe systems following specifications and using hand and power tools.
25. Remove and replace worn components.
26. Inspect work sites for obstructions to ensure holes will not cause structural compromise.
27. Connection of piping systems; Assembly and install.

Experience: Preferred, Three years experience in the HVAC / Mechanical / Piping Contracting Industry
- Valid NC drivers’ license and CFC certification. (Universal)
- High School education and diploma required
- Technical courses in Pipe Fitting, Plumbing and HVAC
- Other trade school certifications applicable.
- Must have the ability to learn how to diagnose Piping problems rapidly and accurately.
Excellent customer service skills - Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concept such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to learn how to read and understand HVAC/Piping drawings is required.

- BODY POSITIONS – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, climb a ladder, be in confined spaces, walk and to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift 75 pounds or more unassisted. Anything weighing over 75 pounds must be team or machine lifted.
