Commercial Property Accountant

The Commercial Property Accountant is a key member of the finance and operations team, responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, analysis, and accounting support across a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. This role ensures strong financial visibility and performance across properties through precise reporting and strategic insight.

This position combines technical accounting expertise with operational partnership, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and compliance while working closely with property management, ownership, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
  • Prepare monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) for assigned properties
  • Maintain general ledger, perform bank reconciliations, and manage AP/AR processes
  • Track capital expenditures and tenant improvement accounting
  • Handle lease accounting including rent escalations, CAM recoveries, abatements, and deposits
Budgeting, Analysis & Forecasting
  • Develop annual budgets and cash flow forecasts
  • Analyze budget vs. actuals and provide insights to stakeholders
  • Support asset-level decision-making through financial analysis
Reporting & Compliance
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages
  • Support audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate reporting
Collaboration & Process Improvement
  • Work cross-functionally with property management and asset teams
  • Improve accounting workflows and reporting processes
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, accountability, and collaboration

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5–10 years of commercial property accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with systems such as Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, or similar
  • Strong Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, reporting)
  • Knowledge of GAAP, lease accounting, and CAM reconciliations
  • Detail-oriented with strong communication and collaboration skills

Salary: $90,000-$95,000 DOE
