Commercial Property and Casualty Claims Coverage Adjuster

Berkshire Hathaway Direct Insurance Company (BHDIC) is the home of commercial small business insurance products biBerk Business Insurance and THREE by Berkshire Hathaway. Our Claims Department is looking for an experienced adjuster or attorney with a solid background in insurance claims coverage. This role will entail multiple key responsibilities but will primarily involve the handling of matters where a split coverage file is needed to avoid conflicts in claim handling, attending mediations where coverage is at issue to ensure appropriate authority, and monitor file developments to ensure accurate coverage positions during the life of assigned claims. In addition, the Coverage Adjuster will work closely with the BHDIC Legal Department in the handling of Declaratory Judgment Actions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Be the designated claims representative for matters in coverage litigation and for claims where a separate coverage file is needed across multiple lines of insurance coverage offered by BHDIC
  • Draft detailed coverage position letters in those matters
  • At the direction of the Legal Department, serve as a point of contact and claim handler for Declaratory Judgment Actions
  • Document coverage claim files with litigation updates and accompanying legal filings and positional correspondence
  • Act as a fact witness for matters in coverage litigation
  • Address Florida Civil Remedy Notices and monitor the associated files
  • Assist with maintaining internal resources relevant to proper handling of coverage claims
  • Communicate and work directly with BHDIC’s Legal Department on a regular basis
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • J.D. is a plus
  • At least 10 years combined experience adjusting and handling coverage for commercial property and liability claims
  • At least 5 years of experience handling litigated claims
  • Prior experience with claims coverage analysis and drafting position letters
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Thorough and detail oriented
  • Ability to multitask and work out of multiple systems on a daily basis

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided. The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000 per year. Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law. This position does not have bonus potential.
