Commercial Trucking Claims Administrator

Hugo Hunter Inc, a trucking company headquartered in Charlotte, NC is seeking a motivated individual that can thrive in a demanding and fast paced work environment to join our insurance team at our Charlotte office.

The Insurance Claims Administrator leads all insurance, claims, and risk control functions for commercial trucking operations. This role oversees the full lifecycle of claims (auto liability, cargo, property, workers’ compensation, and general liability), participates in insurance renewals, and drives initiatives to reduce exposure, improve safety, and control costs. This position works in unison with Safety, Compliance, Fleet Operations, and external insurance partners to protect company assets, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain strong relationships.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Claims Oversight

Direct all aspects of claims management for auto, cargo, property damage, and workers’ compensation incidents.

Serve as the primary contact for adjusters, attorneys, insurers, and third-party administrators (TPAs).

Investigate and evaluate high-severity claims, ensuring fair, timely, and cost-effective resolution.

Maintain detailed claim files, analyze trends, and prepare executive summaries for leadership.

Coordinate recovery efforts including subrogation and salvage.

Regulatory Compliance

Review accident documentation for DOT-reportable events and ensure required filings are accurate and timely.

Maintain awareness of evolving regulations affecting commercial motor carrier liability and insurance coverage.

Leadership & Collaboration

Act as liaison between the company, insurers, TPAs, legal counsel, and senior management.

Provide reports and recommendations to executive leadership on claims performance and risk exposure.

Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across all insurance and risk functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Insurance, or related field.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in commercial transportation claims or insurance risk management preferred
  • Deep understanding of auto liability, cargo, and workers’ compensation claims handling.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and state insurance regulations.
  • Professional certifications preferred: ARM, CPCU, or TRS (Transportation Risk Specialist).

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm Eastern. Compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
