Commodity Manager

SUMMARY: The Commodity Manager plays a key role in developing and implementing Sourcing Strategies and strategic agreements for critical materials, components and/or assembly categories that facilitate Lean procurement principles and optimize the capability, value and flexibility of the Crenlo supply chain. This position focuses on being results-driven, providing strong communications and attention to detail and the ability to influence decisions across the organization. This position is remote.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with the Company leadership team to ensure required suppliers, product capabilities and materials are available and meet cost targets in support of growth and a competitive position in the market.
  • Develops sourcing strategies and implement plans for materials and components by geographic location that meet or exceed the business requirements.
  • Provides input to company procurement, estimating and product development teams to leverage key supplier capabilities in product design, manufacture, test, cost reduction, lead time reduction and customer satisfaction.
  • Performs technical and process capability and capacity assessments of potential and approved suppliers relative to assigned product responsibility to ensure cost effective solutions that meet all technical, performance, quality and business case requirements.
  • Leads the development, implementation and management of innovative processes that facilitate the successful outsourcing or transition of selected products and/or services to offshore or domestic sources.
  • Functions as the business liaison between the Company operational locations and external sourcing resources to facilitate timely resolution of technical and commercial issues.
  • Facilitates and leads the negotiation and contract development of strategic business opportunities and long-term agreements, coordinating with all internal stakeholders involved in the process.
  • Ensures compliance with product requirements, prompt resolution of supplier performance problems and proactive communication to site management teams of potential issues that may impact the customer if not properly managed.
  • Engages in a spirit of cooperation throughout the internal and external supply chain organizations, engineering, manufacturing and quality to ensure superior customer satisfaction and results.
  • Achieves defined milestones and performance targets on selected outsource, major subcontract and cost reduction implementations.
  • Champions/fosters/cultivates/maintains and promotes a strong safety culture and follows all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identifies and communicates workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

  • Strong/broad knowledge of manufacturing processes, key market indicators and suppliers associated with raw materials and mechanical parts and assemblies
  • Proven supplier management/engagement experience along with excellent organizational and process development/optimization skills
  • A customer-oriented focus; be effective and creative in providing solutions in challenging situations.
  • Strong ability to successfully manage multiple tasks/priorities at the same time.
  • Ability to read and correctly interpret and communicate engineering drawings and specifications
  • Will be expected to create and deliver presentations to management, other internal customers and suppliers
  • Demonstrates solid negotiation and contract management skills

WORKING CONDITIONS/OTHER:

Work Hours/Status: Full-Time, 40+ hours, Monday
  • - Friday
  • Travel Requirements: 20% Travel to company business locations and suppliers.
  • Environment: Remote working conditions.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law, compliance, trends, new technologies and best practices in areas of responsibilities.

Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain or engineering or similar field of study, a master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years previous experience as a Jr. Commodity Manager or Sr. Buyer in a role that included price negotiation
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a manufacturing environment related to production or material planning, purchasing, inside sales or other supply chain functions
  • Working knowledge of materials Requirements Planning (MRP), Lean manufacturing and replenishment methods and problem-solving tools
  • Must be computer literate and highly proficient with Microsoft suite products.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or AS9100 Quality System requirements and Lean Manufacturing techniques highly desired.
  • Experience with international sourcing of materials preferred.
