Position Summary
The Department of Communication Arts in the School of Media & Design is seeking part-time faculty candidates for Communication Arts Lecturer. Position will teach undergraduate courses in this discipline. The courses span the field of communications, including radio, television, film, journalism, corporate and strategic communications, health communications, media and culture, public speaking, and broadcasting.

In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of part-time faculty members at the University include teaching and professional activities as assigned.

This applicant pool will remain open and will be used to hire part-time faculty as needed for the 2026-2027 Academic Year.

Essential Functions
Basic Instructional Duties:
  • Prepare course outlines and teach based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures.
  • Prepare and administer timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
  • Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
  • Be available outside of class to help students learn as well as answer questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically).
  • Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
  • Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge in media production and communication to teach at the undergraduate level.
  • Ability to deliver instruction online-ability to effectively learn and use instructional technology;
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach day, evening and weekend sections as needed;
  • Ability to incorporate technology into teaching;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
Master’s Degree in Communication or related field.

Required Work Experience
At least one (1) year of professional work experience in digital media/video production, ideally in areas such as television programs, live events, news, sports, social media, strategic communication, and media and culture.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • PhD in Communication or related field.
