Communications & Marketing Coordinator

Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association (LSRA) seeks a Communications & Marketing Coordinator to join our growing, interdisciplinary, and highly collaborative team.

This is a hybrid role working partly in the office, partly at home, and partly at our events.

The Communications & Marketing Coordinator reports to the Deputy Director.

About Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association

Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association is a licensed Waterkeeper® organization dedicated to improving the ecological health of the Lower Susquehanna River Watershed and the Chesapeake Bay. The organization works across the Lower Susquehanna Watershed that encompasses 22 counties in PA and 2 in MD.

With law and science, we collaborate with local communities to fill gaps in regulatory enforcement and push back against water injustices and irresponsible development. The Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper patrols the river for illegal pollution, and when necessary, enforces environmental laws to protect the river and communities that depend on it.

Job Description

Essential tasks:

  • Social media:
  • Organic: Write copy, take photos/video, and post to our social accounts. Boost posts when appropriate. Grow our presence on other social platforms. Monitor comments and manage inquiries from public.
  • Paid: Use Meta Business Manager to run campaigns, use metrics to track success.
  • Email marketing: Write, design and deploy weekly and ad hoc emails about our upcoming events, our advocacy work and fundraising. Use metrics to track success.
  • Design digital and print graphics as needed.
  • Write copy.

Additional tasks:

  • Update our Wix website with new event listings, images and copy.
  • Draft, edit and distribute press releases, blogs, letters to the editor, letters to elected officials, feature articles, Op-Eds, etc. on behalf of the Riverkeeper.
  • Use Google Analytics to understand the impact of campaigns on website traffic.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

  • Two to four years marketing and communications experience, or relevant bachelor’s or associate degree in marketing, communications or related field.
  • Strong experience in social media, including paid campaigns in Meta.
  • Proficient in design software such as Canva.
  • Experience in photography/videography for social media.
  • Experience with email marketing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Ability to access reliable wi-fi connection, computer, video conferencing, and phone at home.
  • Valid driver’s license and mode of transportation to our office and events.

Desired

  • Familiarity with CRM software such as EveryAction.
  • Familiarity with Wix websites.
  • Familiarity with Google Ads and Google Analytics.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, InDesign, Firefly, Final Cut Pro (Adobe Premier), AdobeAnimateCC, or other editing software.
  • Bilingual (especially Spanish).
  • Basic understanding of environmental literacy and a love for the Susquehanna River watershed.

Schedule/Location

We allow for flexible work schedules so our staff can be responsive to community needs and balance work and personal responsibilities. Some local travel is required. Our staff meets in person once per week, and when necessary or beneficial, this position will be expected to occasionally meet with staff and partners or attend other events in person. Given the place-based, community-centered nature of this work, the applicant must live within the Lower Susquehanna Watershed.

This opportunity will be both demanding and rewarding and allows a chance for the individual to help promote our mission.

Salary & Benefits

$20-24.75 per hour to start based on experience. This is a contracted part-time, at-will, non-exempt position up to 25 hours per week to start. There are no additional benefits as a part-time employee.
