2. ORGANISATIONAL BACKGROUND:


The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) conducts independent, in-depth, and policy-relevant research and provides evidence-based recommendations to the challenges facing India and the world. It draws on the expertise of its researchers, extensive interactions with policy makers as well as convening power to enhance the impact of research. CSEP’s researchers work across the domains of Economic Growth and Development, including Health, Urbanisation, Energy, Natural Resources, Power, Critical Minerals, Climate Change and Sustainability, and Foreign Policy and Security. All CSEP's research and policy recommendations are freely available to the public.



CSEP is based in New Delhi and registered as a company limited by shares and not for profit, under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 1956 (now Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013).

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:


Reporting to the Associate Director - Communications , the Communications Associate will play a critical role in ensuring the clarity, accuracy, and consistency of CSEP’s research publications, including working papers, discussion papers, reports, and policy briefs. The role requires exceptional editing skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a sound understanding of academic and policy writing.



A. Editorial and Content Review:

(1) Review, proofread, and copyedit research outputs such as policy papers, reports, and briefs to ensure accuracy, readability, and adherence to CSEP’s style guide;

(2) Ensure consistency in formatting, citations, and presentation across publications;

(3) Collaborate with editors and researchers to ensure high-quality and timely publication of outputs.



B. Editorial Workflow and Coordination:

(1) Manage editorial workflows, coordinating with authors and internal teams to meet publication deadlines;

(2) Assist in updating and maintaining editorial style guides and templates;

(3) Support the adoption and implementation of editorial best practices across the organisation.



C. Collaboration and Knowledge Support:

(1) Work closely with researchers, editors, and the communications team to enhance the impact of CSEP’s research outputs;

(2) Support internal knowledge-sharing and build awareness of editorial processes and standards.


4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:


Qualification:

(1) Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Policy, or a related field;

(2) A Master’s degree in a relevant field will be preferred.


Experience:

(1) Minimum 2–3 years of professional experience in publishing, editing, or communications, preferably in a research, academic, or policy environment;

(2) Demonstrated expertise in copyediting and proofreading complex written content, ideally including experience with APA style;

(3) Familiarity with digital publishing platforms and document management systems;

(4) Prior experience in a think tank, academic press, or public policy setting will be an advantage.



Skills and Competencies:

(1) Strong Editing and Proofreading Skills: Ability to deliver high-quality, accurate, and well-structured content;

(2) Project Management: Ability to manage deadlines and editorial processes effectively;

(3) Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong team orientation, collaborative mindset, and clear communication style;

(4) Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with digital publishing platforms and document management systems;

(5) Attention to Detail: Meticulous and thorough approach to academic and policy content.
