Location: Thurston County - Olympia, WA (This position is mostly remote with some required in-person obligations.)

Salary: $5,271.00 - $7,082.00 Monthly.
Opportunity:
The Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) mission statement is to work alongside Washington’s vulnerable children, youth, and families to foster safety, stability, and better outcomes by strengthening opportunities, connections, and community. The Communications Consultant 4 (CC4) position supports this mission by delivering clear, timely divisional and agencywide information that helps staff succeed in their roles. Serving as a liaison between the Communications Team and assigned division portfolios, the CC4 supports a wide range of communication needs. In partnership with the Director of Internal Communications, the CC4 develops and implements internal communication plans that advance both division-specific priorities and agencywide initiatives. The CC4 serves as a lead to the Communications Consultant 3 (CC3) in the workgroup.
Some of what you will get to do:

Communicate the agency’s mission, strategic priorities, and operating principles, and how internal communication can support those goals

Use a marketing mindset to spot story ideas, pitch ideas, and develop persuasive messaging to support divisional work.

Meet with division leadership and staff to identify communication needs, build trust, and gather first-hand information to support and promote staff projects and successes.

Use Communication Plan frameworks to outline how and when information will be shared with target audiences.

Use communication plan templates to track roles, timelines, dependencies, and deliverables.

Develop content and share resources that support staff, encourage a positive workplace, and contribute to the agency’s overall success and the well-being of the families we serve.

Write transparent, inclusive messaging that helps employees at all levels feel informed, connected, and engaged.

Review webpages, Word docs, PDF and other content for ADA accessibility and compliance.

Serve as the lead writer/editor for agency reports and other large-scale projects.
Required Qualifications:
-
Five (5) years working as a writer, editor or content creator with a professional news organization, accredited media outlet, established newsroom, recognized media agency, marketing firm, agency, educational institution, or related field.

Associate’s degree AND three (3) years working as a writer, editor or content creator with legitimate news outlet, marketing firm, agency, education institution, or related field.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in English, communications, journalism, public administration, public relations, marketing, or related field AND two (2) years of professional writing/editing experience.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

Professional experience in marketing and promotions with a focus on identifying needs, promoting benefits and services, building brands, and fostering engagement opportunities.

Experience with multimedia and integration of multiple forms of media.

Experience working within a welfare or human services organization.
