The Communications Coordinator is a professional-level position responsible for producing and managing written and digital content to support city communications initiatives. The position works collaboratively across all departments to ensure consistent, accurate and timely communications with residents, stakeholders and the general public. The role supports the planning and execution of communications strategies and is responsible for key communication channels including the City newsletter, website, and social media platforms. This position is Part-Time (24-hours per week)/ Non-Exempt, Benefits Eligible, and reports to: Assistant City Administrator
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPlans, coordinates, and produces electronic and print communications materials, including soliciting content, writing articles, proofreading, editing, and designing layout for the City newsletter and other publications.Develops, updates, and manages content for the City website and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram), including monitoring engagement and responding to inquiries and comments.Assists in developing and implementing content calendars and communication plans to support City initiatives and programs.Designs graphics and visual assets for web, social media, video, and print communications. Monitors and evaluates communication efforts using basic analytics (e.g., website traffic, social media engagement) and recommends improvements. Ensures communications meet branding standards, clarity, and accessibility guidelines (including ADA compliance).Provides general support to internal and external communications and public information programs and events. Assists with crisis and emergency communications, including disseminating timely and accurate information as directed.Performs other duties, as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of principles, practices, and methods of public sector communications, including content development, digital media, and public information strategies. Knowledge of municipal government operations and the importance of transparency and public engagement. Skilled in writing, editing, and producing clear, accurate, and engaging content for a variety of audiences and platforms. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to use computers and relevant software, including content management systems, social media platforms, and graphic design tools. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, officials, and the
public.WORK SCHEDULE This part-time position is scheduled for 24-hours per week. The position has availability for a hybrid work arrangement, with a combination of remote and in-office work. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support City meetings, events, or emergency
communications.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Administration or related field. 3-5 Years experience in managing projects in communications, public relations, community affairs or related field. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSValid Driver’s LicenseProficient in the use of computers and related software including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision and ability to adjust focus; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities.ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONSThis work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
