Communications Coordinator with the Water Institute

Organization Mission and/or Goals:
The Water Institute is an independent, applied research organization advancing actionable research, technology, and planning in support of science-informed decision making. Our mission is to reduce the vulnerability of people, communities, ecosystems, and economies through transformative approaches to interconnected environmental and social challenges.

Service activities include:

  • Updating the website with publications, project reports, and recent press releases and news stories.
  • Assisting in managing and maintaining contact lists on constant contact
  • Compiling a weekly Coastal News email newsletter for sharing relevant and timely news and media stories with staff and board.
  • Assisting with creating branded assets for internal and external use including staff bios, CVs and resumes for website.
  • Supporting staff in creation of presentations, flyers, brochures and other print and digital assets to present projects and share Institute knowledge
  • Supporting staff in special communications projects including: tours of facilities, community outreach and engagement events, special event planning and promotion, client projects involving communication strategy
  • Serve as a Marketing and Communications liaison between research teams and departments by attending their internal meetings and reporting back on their needs/requests.
  • Attending external meetings, events, conferences, etc. to create photo and video content showing the Institute’s participation
  • Creating graphics for digital and physical publications using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite Capturing and assisting in editing video content for social media, YouTube, internal and external use
  • Writing content for monthly internal newsletter, The Water Drop, including a species spotlight and In the News Assist in creating Impact Reports, Strategic Communications Plans, and Mission Advancement content
  • Assisting with GIS story mapping projects.
  • Reading peer reviewed publications, project reports and other scientific research and translating for different audiences including general public and community stakeholders.
  • Aggregating data from various marketing and communications channels to assist in preparing annual strategic communications plan metrics reports.
