COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR:

Class Characteristics:
This position works closely with the Executive Director to promote BRADD’s mission, programs and events to the public and BRADD stakeholders. The Communications Director will be an agency liaison, draft press releases, promote the agency on social media or other media platforms, create and schedule content, assist with website development and/or maintenance, learn all programs of the ADD and frequently attend public events and meetings with local elected officials, community leaders and other BRADD team members.

General Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential:
  • Maintain and regularly update all social media platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn;
  • Create and publish the monthly calendar(s), e-newsletter, in collaboration with the Public Administration Specialist (PAS);
  • Draft and circulate media releases and maintain a relationship with media;
  • Oversee special projects, research and assignments as directed by the Executive Director;
  • Prepare the Annual Report working with each BRADD Program Director;
  • Create brochures and other marketing tools;
  • Ensure brand standards are followed by staff in external-facing media;
  • Be the official photographer and videographer for BRADD and maintain photos and videos taken by staff;
  • Prepare speeches/presentations for the Executive Director, as needed;
  • Collaborate with the Kentucky Council of Area Development Districts on marketing efforts;
  • Attend and participate in internal and external meetings with and on behalf of the Executive Director, as needed;
  • Coordinate training for staff and the Board of Directors;
  • Collaborate with IT Director in website design/updates;
  • Support marketing, education and promotion of all key programming areas of the ADD; and
  • Perform related duties as required.

Training and Experience
This position requires a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university (master’s preferred) in journalism, marketing, communication, public relations or related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of related job experience. Related experience includes a position of responsibility in media/marketing/journalism.


Knowledge:
  • Must have basic knowledge of the physical, economic and social aspects of the counties in the Barren River Area Development District.
  • Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge and expertise in assigned tasks.
  • Must demonstrate dedication, responsibility and integrity.

Skills:
  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills, demonstrated by the ability to coordinate the efforts of separate program activities and various staff levels.
  • Must excel in and be concise in written and oral communication.
  • Must have proficient computer skills and demonstrate capability with multiple marketing strategies and software programs, including Google, Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, project management programs, and Canva.

Abilities:
  • Must be able to establish and maintain favorable working relationships with the employees, committees, councils, local, state, and federal governmental organizations, and the general public.
  • Must have administrative and supervisory ability, as well as diplomacy and sound judgment.
  • Must be a self-motivator; work well without supervision.

  • Instructions: General instructions, must use own judgment most of the time.
  • Processes: Complex. Frequently required to analyze guidelines and establish concepts or programs within established limits or policies.
  • Review of Work: Limited review by the Executive Director.
  • Analytical Requirements: Extensive. Assignments may require analysis of figures, data and results of all kinds, which directly affect the policy of the organization.
  • Decisions and Judgments: Planning feasible and cost-effective projects; providing staff guidance as needed.
  • Tools, Equipment and Vehicles Used: Basic office equipment; must use vehicle as a requirement of the job.
  • Physical Requirements of the Job: Work is performed typically indoors in an office setting; must be able to lift objects weighing in excess of 25 pounds; must operate a vehicle as a requirement of the job and may require travel by plane; may require attendance of after hour meetings and overnight travel with limited notice.
  • Contacts: Frequent public and internal contacts requiring tact and diplomacy are requirements of the job.
  • Confidential Information: Regular use of confidential information is a job requirement.
  • Mental Effort: Heavy.
  • Interruptions: Constant.
  • Special Licensing Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license.
  • Availability: Must be available to attend evening and weekend meetings. Overnight travel as needed.
  • Certification Requirements: None.
  • Additional Requirements: Any training opportunity offered by state and federal partners.
  • Overtime Provision: Exempt.
