We’re looking for a versatile and creative Communications Intern to support our external and internal communication efforts through compelling written and visual storytelling. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience producing content that informs, engages and builds trust across multiple channels. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a fast-paced environment, and to work on projects that directly impact the reputation and visibility of a dynamic organization.

This is a summer and fall position that has a typical timeframe of June-December Internships and Co-ops may be shortened or extended at the discretion of the company. In this position, you will be supporting the Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Business at our Sterling Heights, MI facility. Relocation will not be offered. Housing is not provided.

As a Communications Intern you will:

  • Support the execution of the external and internal communications plans to highlight the impact of our mission-capable combat systems for customers and stakeholders.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, competitors and customer insights to inform storytelling and messaging strategies.

  • Tell the stories of our products, customers, community partnerships and values in creative and engaging ways.

  • Write clear, engaging copy for social media, press releases, internal newsletters and other digital platforms, as well as for special events and trade shows.

  • Contribute ideas to editorial calendars and brainstorming sessions for creative campaigns.

  • Support special events, trade shows and customer engagements as needed.

  • Help prepare media kits, fact sheets and other media relations materials for events and announcements.

  • Track and compile communications analytics.

  • Attend team meetings and contribute to planning discussions.



Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Currently pursuing or recent graduate with a degree in marketing/communications, public relations, journalism or related field.
  • Internship Work Period: The internship is based in the BAE System’s Sterling Heights office. Applicants must be available to work 40 hours a week during the summer months and 16-24 hours during the school year (2-3 days a week).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft clear, engaging and professional content.

  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.

  • Experience with social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and X) and an understanding of best practices for each.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and a customer-focused mindset.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Knowledge of AP Style.



Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Provide a portfolio or samples that showcase both written and visual work.
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus.



Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $44724 - $60326

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
