Description:

Manages communications activities to promote the advancement of a major university program or center through the planning and coordination of its publications and media relations.

1. Designs and coordinates publications for the program, including brochures, newsletters, annual reports and other marketing and promotional materials.
2. Manages the design and update of program web sites.
3. Coordinates the procurement and management of graphic design, printing and other publication-related services.
4. Writes and disseminates news and press releases for the program.
5. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with external media organizations, as well as the university's media relations department.
6. Manages advertising, marketing and publications for promotional events and other special programs.
7. Participates in the strategic planning process related to marketing and promotion of the program.
8. Writes and edits articles, speeches, and other communication projects as assigned.
9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Posting Information:
This position will serve as the primary photographer/videographer within the Communications Division in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS).

To that end, candidates will be expected to:
  • Demonstrate videography and photography success in a variety of platforms, including websites, print materials and social media.
  • Produce photo and video content for marketing and storytelling needs.
  • Be highly organized, with the ability to plan, execute and multitask to meet deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Have a minimum of three years of professional videography and photography experience, is preferred.
  • Have demonstrated experience with video equipment, studio and location lighting, audio recording, and editing video projects.
  • Be an advanced-level user of multimedia authoring software.
  • Demonstrate advanced video/audio editing and multimedia composition skills.
  • Show an ability to perform all aspects of photography and video production (from start to finish).
  • Maintain the division's photography and video inventory, including on advising when new equipment is needed and plans for its use.
  • Exhibit an excellent, customer-service-focused approach to working with departments, centers and fellow team members
  • Demonstrate both an ability to work independently on projects, as well as work collaborative to conceptualize and create new works.
  • Understand that some shoots may happen outside usual work hours of 8am to 5pm.

Familiarity and understanding of intellectual property rights and permissions related to licensed music and video usage is a plus.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a passion for working collaboratively with faculty, staff, alumni and students creating photo and video materials for a wide range of audiences. A high level of creativity, and the ability to produce content in a fast-paced and deadline-orientated environment are a must. This position also requires strong time and project management skills.

Experience at a multi-departmental institution or university is very helpful.

MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
