Position Summary:

The Communications Specialist leads GIG and GIG Cares’s storytelling for consumer audiences, crafting clear, engaging, and trust-building content across digital and print platforms. This role turns education into connection, shaping messages that empower gluten-free consumers while amplifying GIG’s mission and impact.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Core Functions

  • Create and manage content for GIG’s print, digital, and social platforms from idea to publication.
  • Lead editorial quality and brand voice, ensuring consistency, clarity, and accuracy across all communications.
  • Plan and execute the editorial calendar, aligning consumer content, educational messaging, and marketing initiatives.

Supporting Functions

  • Collaborate across teams including education, marketing, and outreach to synchronize messaging and strengthen campaign impact.
  • Research, write, and edit content that meets consumer needs and advances GIG’s mission.
  • Mentor staff and guide outreach projects, fostering better communication and storytelling organization-wide.
  • Gather and share community stories that highlight real experiences and elevate brand authenticity.

Strategic Add-Ons

  • Provide communication strategy input to the Executive Operations Team and marketing leads.
  • Contribute to virtual events and video projects, ensuring cohesive messaging across formats.
  • Recommend emerging technologies and new platforms to expand reach and engagement.
  • Refine internal communication processes, style guides, and editorial procedures for long-term efficiency.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· None

Education/Experience:

· BS in Marketing, English, Journalism or related field.
· Minimum 5 years work experience in consumer writing, social media, and customer service.
· Proven work experience as a content writer, copywriter, similar role.
· Experience doing research using multiple sources.

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Abilities:

· Strong understanding of consumer psychology and engagement funnels.
· Experience analyzing consumer content performance metrics to guide strategy.
· Skilled in crafting emotionally intelligent messaging that drives trust and loyalty.
· Familiarity with web publications.
· Excellent writing and editing skills in English.
· Hands-on experience social media platforms.
· Ability to meet deadlines.
· Familiarity with celiac disease and/or the gluten-free diet preferred.
· Analytic and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key to achieve tasks.
· Commitment to quality work.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· Good judgment and problem-solving skills.

· Competent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Other useful software knowledge a bonus: Salesforce, Adobe, WordPress, Constant Contact, Social Studio, Office 365, and Social Media Platforms.

  • Elevated GIG’s public voice into a recognizable, trusted authority in the gluten-free space.
  • Increased content reach and engagement by 20–30%.
  • Mentored staff in adopting best-in-class communication practices.
  • Contributed to innovative campaigns that expand awareness of GIG and GIG Cares.

Work Environment:

The position is site-based at one of the following physical GIG offices:

· Lacey, Washington
· Palm Bay, Florida

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $72,000.00 - $73,000.00 per year
