Education - A bachelor’s degree in public health, Communications, Health Education, Journalism, or a related field preferred. An Associates is required.
Experience - Two (2) or more years of experience in public health, health education, or health communication—experience working with Indigenous communities strongly preferred.
Licenses & Certification – Valid Driver’s License is required and be willing to travel within the tribal service area.
Knowledge & Skills –
The Public Health Communication Specialist will support the health and well-being of the Muscogee Creek Nation community by developing, implementing, and evaluating culturally relevant health communication strategies. This role involves being the liaison with MCN Public Relations, health professionals, and the community to ensure accurate, accessible, and culturally appropriate health messaging. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of public health principles and Indigenous health perspectives.
Work is performed in a normal office setting. Some travel will be required.
Work is mostly sedentary, requiring the operation of normal office equipment (computers, adding machines, etc.) and may require some driving and travel.
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
Develop and distribute culturally tailored health communication materials on topics such as chronic disease prevention, mental health, environmental health, infectious diseases, and wellness initiatives.
Develop and implement a communication strategy that includes media outreach and social media content creation.
Serve as a liaison between public health staff, infection control, and MCN public relations to promote understanding and trust in health initiatives.
Serves as editor for the public health reports, campaigns, etc. and carries out editorial and writing assignments for organizational materials.
Arrange, coordinate and plan with the public relations department on the distribution of public health publications, press releases, public health proclamations and official statements.
Support and evaluate results of communication campaigns with the team.
Works with Tribal, public health nurses and other media by providing information on public health activities as requested.
Assists with the coordination and planning of press conferences and events.
Serve as Special Project Coordinator/Officer on specific activities or projects as directed or assigned.
Provide public health content for social media and web site(s) as necessary.
Regular attendance is required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Build and maintain relationships with journalists and key external role-players.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health communication strategies using metrics and community feedback.
Ensure all communication materials reflect tribal values, language, and traditions, and support health sovereignty.
