Job Description
This posting will fill two positions. These two positions are part of a Bush Foundation Community Innovation Grant project focused on developing an Ojibwe Language Documentation and Archival Center. The individuals hired will play a key role in advancing project goals through collaborative implementation, relationship-building with First Language speakers and Knowledge Keepers, and ongoing support for the long-term success and sustainability of the project.
Responsibilities: The Successful candidate will:
1. Language Documentation and Archival
- Actively contribute to the development, maintenance and growth of an Ojibwe Language Documentation and Archival Center
- Facilitate language documentation sessions with First-Language speakers and throughout all stages of documentation ensure linguistic accuracy, cultural authenticity, and respectful representation.
- Present project updates to the Language Documentation Advisory Board as appropriate.
2. Collaboration and community Engagement
- Facilitate Ojibwe language immersive environments including immersion camps, sessions and courses throughout the year.
- Facilitate workshops and trainings for Ojibwe communities related to language documentation and archival practices.
- Assist with the Ojibwe/English website and support FDLTCC website efforts with Ojibwe language.
- Contribute to the Ojibwe Language Symposium and other hosted language presentations.
3. Teaching, Curriculum Development, and Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the development of curriculum related to language documentation and archival studies.
- Teach and range of college-level Ojibwe language courses, including immersive Ojibwe language courses.
- Participate in accreditation efforts, student success initiatives, and other institutional priorities that support ongoing program and institutional growth.
4. Mentorship, Student Support, and Campus Language Initiatives
- Supervise, mentor, and train student interns in immersive learning environments, including language documentation and archival practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues, communities, and partners to strengthen the Ojibwe Language degree programs and the Language Documentation and Archival Center while supporting students with varied skill levels.
- Participate in program and campus life through committee service, campus activities, and professional development opportunities.
Salary Range:
$47,185 - $71,893 Annual Base Salary
The above salary range is for initial placement only. If currently teaching within Minnesota State, current salary will remain the same.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with a major in American Indian Studies or with30 quarter/ 20 semester credits in courses which support the development of expertise in the assigned field.
Preferred Qualification
- Master's degree
- Advanced level or higher proficiency in Ojibwe language
- Experience working with First Language speakers and Knowledge Keepers
- Experience recording, transcribing and archiving Ojibwe language
- Experience facilitating Ojibwe immersion environments such as camps, courses, or other environments
- Experience teaching Ojibwe language courses in post-secondary or K-12 settings
- Demonstrated knowledge of Ojibwemowin, American Indian culture and history, and collaboration with Ojibwe communities and families
- Commitment to supporting diverse students through instruction, campus engagement, and college or system-level initiatives
- Experience in curriculum development and assessment related to Ojibwe language learning outcomes
- Ability to collaborative effectively with colleagues, including committee work
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
