The Kendall Whittier neighborhood branch continues to build upon partnerships in the community, especially targeting the growing Hispanic population. The staff, some who are bilingual Spanish speakers, works with community events such as the Lights On at Whittier Square for the holidays, and hosts multicultural, multigenerational family events, including the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The Kendall Whittier Library Community I Branch Manager is responsible for the direct management of their assigned library location and the oversight, direction and execution of strategic plans for their library location as applicable.
Some additional responsibilities and qualifications include:
- Assesses customer needs and trends; leads planning, promotion, coordination and evaluation of programs and services, always mindful of innovative ways to improve them;
- Interviews, selects and trains staff; in collaboration with each staff member, establishes individual performance goals, coaches to improve performance, and recommends appropriate personnel actions;
- Directs staffing and services to meet location goals and objectives;
- Develops relationships with key community members, including local school systems; markets and promotes TCCL to the community and beyond;
- Prepares annual Location Profile, budget requests, and other required reports for location; tracks location metrics through the development of key performance indicators; analyzes data and statistics to assess performance of location, making data driven decision as necessary;
- Communicates library self-service features and new technologies and ensure that library staff and customers are trained in their use and application;
- Excellent interpersonal, and communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Experience of library procedures and operations as well as library technologies and current consumer technologies;
- Strong problem-solving and management skills, maintaining neutral emotion and exercising sound judgement;
- Must be flexible and adaptable in the type and location of work to be accomplished in order to provide superior customer experiences, including evenings and weekends.
Education & Experience
- Masters of Library and Information Studies required;
- Three years or more of library experience required;
- One year of supervisory experience required;
- Or equivalent combination of technical training, education, and/or experience required.

Starting salary range $4,192.00 - $6,075.00;
Schedule: Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends,
Regular hours: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 6:00 pm; rotating Saturdays; occasional Sundays at the Rudisill Regional Library
Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions
Work occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required.
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions. The job may involve dealing with moderately unpleasant situations, such as occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals.
