Community Language Program - Spanish Teacher

JOB SUMMARY: The Community Language Program supports language acquisition within the adult community. This position would be teaching Spanish to adult learners and work alongside our teacher teaching English to adult learners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Ability to proficiently speak, read, write and listen in Spanish.
• Skilled at teaching adult learners.
• Ability to create curriculum and scaffold instruction for a range of learners.

Experience:

Prior experience teaching Spanish required.

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. College level coursework or degree in Spanish preferred.

Certification Required: None

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Work closely with the Community Language Program Coordinator to design program experience.
• Ability to teach and scaffold for a variety of language levels in Spanish.
• Provide instruction or support during Community Language Program events.
• Assist with community members acquiring English as needed.
• Maintain professional standards of conduct.
• Attend all scheduled events punctually and consistently.

• Must be dependable, flexible, and capable of working within a school setting.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional behavior with students and staff.
• Must pass a background check per district policy

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out accurate and clear written or oral

instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized

situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may

be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck

and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to

reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously

uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25

pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods

of time.

Stipend: Hourly Rate according the the Curriculum Rate of $35.40 (total 84 hours)
