Overview
The Community Mental Health Therapist provides clinical services through a school-based partnership with District Heights Elementary School (DHES) and supports agency-based mental health services at the District Heights Family & Youth Services Bureau (DHFYSB). The therapist delivers individual and group counseling, collaborates with school personnel, supports families, and contributes to agency programming, community events, and intern development.
Responsibilities
- School-Based (DHES) Responsibilities
- Lead the DHFYSB Mental Health Partnership with District Heights Elementary School.
- Build ongoing partnerships with DHES administrators, teachers, and staff to support students’ mental health and socio-emotional needs.
- Coordinate with the school counselor to identify students requiring services; maintain a therapeutic caseload of 10–15 students.
- Lead or co-lead clinical groups as identified by the school counselor.
- Maintain the DHES therapeutic playroom, ensuring it is organized, safe, and well-equipped.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide behavioral/clinical support upon request by teachers or parents.
- Participate in IEP and 504 meetings as clinically appropriate.
- Maintain HIPAA-compliant clinical records and communicate regularly with parents/guardians.
- Attend and participate in school events as a representative of DHFYSB.
- Promote DHFYSB programs, events, and community resources within the school.
DHFYSB-Based Responsibilities
- Provide therapy and community-based support as part of the agency's clinical team.
- Attend weekly consultation meetings, staff meetings, and clinical supervision.
- Maintain a caseload of 15 clients (school schedule permitting).
- Mentor counseling interns through session shadowing and skill-building opportunities.
- Support and participate in agency workshops, outreach events, and community programming.
- Track and report data related to the DHES partnership and overall service delivery.
- Submit timely monthly measurement/performance data.
- Maintain professional licensure requirements, ethics, and continuing education.
- Uphold all HIPAA and state/federal confidentiality standards.
Experience
- Master’s or Graduate Degree in:
- Clinical Mental Health Counseling
- Counseling Psychology
- Social Work
- Or a closely related behavioral health field
- Maryland State Licensure (one of the following):
- LGPC (Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor)
- LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor)
- LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker)
- LCSW (Licensed Certified Social Worker)
- Eligibility to provide clinical services under Maryland state regulations
- Ability to pass standard background checks and fingerprinting
- Experience working with children, families, or in a school setting preferred
- Strong communication, documentation, and case-management skills

Pay: $64,879.79 - $73,840.00 per year
