Employment Status and Schedule: Non-exempt, full-time position, 40 hours per work week; evening and weekend hours required.

Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience

Position Summary

This is a field-based, hybrid position, offering the flexibility to work from home while dedicating in- person efforts to building community relationships and organizing activities in West Contra Costa County. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to cultivating authentic relationships, fostering resident leadership, and supporting community campaigns for meaningful change. The Community Organizer will work closely with resident leaders and community partners to identify local needs, build a strong base, and lead advocacy activities towards racial, economic, and health justice

Rising Juntos supports three chapters of resident leaders across Contra Costa County. These groups build power among underrepresented residents and advocate for public policies and investments in neighborhood safety, health, housing and economic security, and racial/immigrant justice.

The Community Organizer supports the West, Central and/or East chapter(s) with base-building, issue-based organizing, and leadership development to advance Rising Juntos’ mission. The Community Organizer is responsible for new member recruitment, mobilizing, leadership coaching, advocacy activities, event / meeting planning, and local coalition activity.

The position is part of a dynamic Rising Juntos team which includes the Executive Director, Policy Advocacy Manager, and Lead Organizer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and nurture relationships with resident leaders and organizations to advance shared goals.
  • Coordinate with the Leadership team to develop and implement recruitment, mobilization, base-building strategies.
  • Provide leadership, advocacy, and media coaching to residents.
  • Organize community meetings, events, rallies, and actions.
  • Facilitate community workshops and leadership development programs.
  • Support policy advocacy, including meeting with elected officials and community partners.
  • Help develop outreach and campaign materials.
  • Track and report organizing activities, progress, and outcomes.
  • Represent Rising Juntos at public meetings, coalitions, community events, and in media.
  • Offer information and referral support to membership as needed.

Summary of Qualifications

  • Passion for building power for racial, housing, and immigrant justice.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, or two years of experience in community organizing grassroots campaigning, or related a field.
  • Experience in mobilizing low-income families and/or with Black, Indigenous and people of color.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Resourceful and skilled in information gathering.
  • Public speaking experience and ability to deliver presentations.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Canva, and familiar with social media platforms.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for meetings, events, outreach, and actions.
  • Valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance, and reliable transportation to transport materials

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities facing low-income communities Black and Brown communities in West, Central and East Contra Costa County.
  • Fluency in verbal and written Spanish.
  • Knowledge of the political, organizing, and service agency landscape in West Contra Costa.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary range is $60,000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience. Rising Juntos offers a comprehensive benefits package through our fiscal sponsor, Urban Habitat.

Additional Details:

This position is grant funded and will primarily focus on health and housing justice campaigns in West Contra Costa, with additional support needed throughout the county. The ideal candidate will have experience organizing with Black / African American communities and supporting Black leadership and voice. The position is a hybrid position with field-based work and regular travel required across Contra Costa.
