Community Service Driver - Community Food Retail Program

Job Summary

What You’ll Do

The Community Service Food Program Driver supports daily food distribution and retail operations by safely transporting food while delivering a positive, respectful, and engaging experience to the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Safely operate a commercial step van / box truck up to 30 feet in length to transport food and program supplies throughout Los Angeles
  • Load, secure, and unload food items carefully to maintain quality, safety, and cleanliness
  • Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections and maintain a clean, well‑organized truck
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and proper food‑handling standards
  • Provide warm, respectful, and professional Community service during all deliveries and community interactions
  • Engage confidently with community members, answering questions and creating a welcoming, dignified environment
  • Proactively inform the community about new products, returning favorites, upcoming events, and program updates
  • Operate retail software and mobile technology, including Square, POS systems, tablets, and other devices, to support transactions, inventory tracking, and Community service
  • Accurately process transactions and record information using POS and tablet‑based systems
  • Conduct inventory and quality checks to identify, remove, and report expired or damaged products according to procedures
  • Accurately complete delivery logs, mileage reports, inventory documentation, and other required records
  • Communicate clearly, courteously, and transparently with program staff, warehouse teams, site partners, and community members
  • Troubleshoot basic operational or technology issues and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Adhere to assigned routes, schedules, safety protocols, and organizational policies
  • Represent The Niles Foundation positively through professional appearance, good hygiene, respectful conduct, and teamwork

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking drivers who are experienced, dependable, and aligned with our mission to serve the community with dignity, care, and consistency. The ideal candidate understands that reliability, communication, adaptability, and Community experience are essential to program success.

Required Qualifications & Core Traits:

  • 2–3 years of professional driving experience, including operating a commercial box truck (20ft +)
  • Experience safely transporting food, goods, or similar products
  • Demonstrated commitment to driving safety, proper vehicle operation, and compliance with procedures
  • Reliable, punctual, and dependable, with consistent attendance
  • Consistent attendance and timely arrival are essential functions of this role
  • Reliable, consistent transportation with the ability to report to scheduled work locations and shifts on time
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to adjust to changing schedules, routes, locations, or program needs
  • Fast learner, able to quickly learn new processes, products, technologies, and service expectations
  • Strong community service mind-set, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A people‑person who is approachable, friendly, and confident, engaging with diverse communities
  • Enthusiastic and charismatic, bringing positive energy, warmth, and professionalism to daily work
  • Transparent and accountable communicator, able to share information clearly, set expectations, and report issues promptly
  • Goals‑driven, with the ability to meet daily service standards, operational expectations, and performance goals
  • Team player, with a collaborative mindset and willingness to support coworkers, supervisors, and program partners
  • Comfortable using retail technology, including Square, POS systems, tablets, and mobile devices
  • Detail‑oriented when processing transactions, entering data, or handling digital documentation
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and professional appearance, with strong personal hygiene practices
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
  • Must have reliable, adequate, and consistent transportation
  • Criminal & background check required
  • Clean driving record

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 per week
