Community Services Coordinator (Pretrial Services)
Position Summary
Works under the direct supervision of a supervisor. Responsible for developing, implementing, and administering programming related to Shelby County Pretrial Services Community Services Unit, requiring direct engagement with various community and criminal justice stakeholders as needed to identify, place, supervise, and evaluate the program and the performance of the staff
Pay Grade: 48
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
- Five (5) years' experience in an increasingly responsible administrative capacity; AND
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field; OR
- An equivalent combination of related education, and/or experience. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as liaison with the various non-profit agencies within the community to promote and assist with area projects.
- Develop and/or assist in coordinating existing community resources to meet the needs of clients who are required to complete community services by the courts.
- Develops program plans and carry out specialized projects as it relates to Community Services and other Pretrial Services programs.
- Ensure accurate and up to date participant records are maintained.
- Maintain program records and statistics.
- Prepare cases for presentation to Judges, Court Personnel, and/or other community agencies as needed.
- Screen potential agencies for eligibility, approval, and monitoring to ensure adherence to all program requirements. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

- Thorough knowledge of the criminal justice system.
- Ability to recruit, train, and supervise community service probationers and volunteers.
- Ability to coordinate and direct the activities of assigned personnel.
- Ability to establish and maintain system of records.
- Ability to cooperate and work with other departments and community service worksites.
- Ability to deal with co-workers and the public with courtesy and tact. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees. This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department. The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff’s Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.
