Community Support Specialist - Welcome Center Intake

Job Title: Community Support Specialist

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri

Job Summary:

This position is part of the Welcome Center in the Intake Department. The Welcome Center is the first stop for clients coming into the agency. As an Intake CSS, you will work with adults while they are in the intake process until they get placed onto a long-term treatment team. You will provide brief community-based support to new clients, ensuring they are working towards getting their needs met right as they walk through the door.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver community-based mental health services including assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions for children, adolescents, and adults
  • Develop and implement individualized, strengths-based treatment plans in collaboration with clients, families, and care teams
  • Apply evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed approaches to support client growth and resilience
  • Facilitate individual and group sessions, including PSR groups, aligned with client goals and treatment plans
  • Coordinate care with physicians, psychiatrists, schools, and community organizations to ensure comprehensive support
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, families, and key stakeholders to promote engagement and positive outcomes
  • Support clients in developing coping skills, daily living skills, and community integration strategies
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of services, progress, and treatment updates in compliance with organizational standards
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment to ensure continuity of care and client success

Education, Experience, and/or Credential Qualifications:
  • There are several ways in which you may qualify for this position including:

Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields of study: Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Education, Criminal Justice, Family Studies, Counseling, Recreational Therapy, Human Services, Human Development, Child Development, Gerontology, Behavioral Science, Rehabilitation Counseling

Associate of Applied Science in Behavioral Health Support degree from an approved institution

Work experience in a related human services field may substitute for educational requirements. *Related fields may include direct support such as case management, residential support, developmentally disabled support, vocational rehabilitation, and more. Four years of qualifying experience minimum or a combination of education and experience equaling four years required.

Qualified Addictions Professional (QAP) - CADC, CRADC, CRAADC, CCJP, RADC-P, RADC, CCDP, CCDP-D

Additional Qualifications:
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age to operate a company-owned vehicle
  • Must be at least twenty-three (23) years of age to operate a company-owned fifteen (15) passenger van
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance required
  • Must have reliable transportation to transport clients as needed
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health and/or substance use disorders and community resources
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Must successfully complete background checks including criminal, driving, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint screening
  • Must obtain and maintain required trainings to meet professional development and DMH standards

Physical Requirements
  • Perform primarily sedentary work involving sitting for extended periods with occasional standing or walking
  • Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, or pull objects
  • Utilize repetitive hand, finger, and arm movements for typing and documentation throughout the workday
