Job Summary

Morton Salt has an opportunity for a Compensation Director who will lead the design, implementation, and administration of our compensation programs in support of the company's total rewards philosophy. This key role will shape total rewards initiatives that attract and retain exceptional talent while driving business results and maintaining compliance. The ideal candidate will bring both strategic vision and hands-on expertise to build compensation programs motivating high performance and supporting growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define and implement a comprehensive compensation strategy aligned with organizational goals and objectives
  • Proactively develop and implement compensation programs including incentive plans, salary structures, job architecture, and leveling frameworks
  • Conduct thorough analysis of market trends, industry benchmarks, and internal data to assess the competitiveness and effectiveness of existing compensation programs
  • Drive the annual compensation planning process to include merit increase, bonus, and internal equity recommendations through thoughtful analysis and consultation with business partners
  • Collect, analyze, and maintain analytical reports including annual merit, performance calibration, short-term incentive calculations, sales and marketing incentives, and special incentives
  • Manage compensation functions including survey participation, market pricing, job evaluation, and other initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements related to compensation
  • Lead other compensation-related projects, as required
  • Partner with leaders on compensation-related matters, providing guidance and consultation on compensation policies and practices
  • Create clear communication strategies to educate employees and managers about compensation programs
  • Develop compensation guidelines, tools, and training materials
  • Serve as subject matter expert on compensation philosophy and best practices

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or HR-related area
  • 10+ years of progressive compensation experience
  • Extensive expertise in compensation principles and practices
  • In-depth experience in the application of concepts associated with job evaluation, job analysis, market pricing, and total rewards
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable compensation laws and regulatory requirements across North America, including federal, state, and provincial regulations
  • Advanced proficiency in HRIS systems and compensation tools
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with data analysis and visualization tools
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical capabilities
  • Strategic thinking with ability to translate business needs into compensation solutions
  • Proven project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities for all organizational levels
  • Change management expertise and ability to influence stakeholders
