Compliance and Licensing Officer (Paralegal Credential or legal background desired)

We are seeking a Compliance Officer to help us uphold the highest standards of legal, ethical, and regulatory compliance within our organization.

Job Description:

As the Compliance Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring that our organization adheres to applicable legal and regulatory guidelines. You will be responsible for maintaining our overall compliance with applicable healthcare laws and state and local regulations of licensed behavioral health providers. Having a background in legal services and/or knowledge of law will support your ability to manage documentation, legal audits, and assist in keeping our operations compliant with relevant rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and update compliance policies adhering to state and federal behavioral healthcare regulations.

• Conduct internal audits to ensure adherence to behavioral healthcare laws and industry standards.

• Work closely with outside legal counsel to monitor and interpret changes in behavioral healthcare regulations affecting our organization.

• Lead compliance training sessions for staff on legal and ethical issues, such as client confidentiality, insurance regulations, and medical record keeping.

• Assist in preparing and responding to external audits or investigations.

• Investigate compliance concerns and collaborate with management to address potential risks.

• Ensure all compliance documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and properly filed.

• Maintain familiarity with regulations surrounding Minnesota EIDBI autism services and licensing requirements, HIPAA, and insurance reimbursement policies.

Required Qualifications:

• Paralegal or equivalent legal training.

• 3+ years of experience in compliance, legal, or healthcare-related roles.

• Knowledge of Minnesota DHS regulations (especially EIDBI), Minnesota and federal behavioral healthcare laws and regulations, including HIPAA, and insurance billing practices.

• Strong analytical, research, and organizational skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and handle sensitive legal matters with discretion.

• Proficiency with compliance management systems or tools is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associates (or above) degree in paralegal, Law, legal-related fields, Healthcare Administration, or related fields.

• Experience in healthcare or behavioral health settings.

• Certification in compliance (e.g., Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional - CCEP) is a plus.
