Compliance Manager – Disability & Leave Operations

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Manager (Remote)
We’re seeking a Regulatory Compliance & Quality Manager to ensure our Disability & Leave Operations meet all federal, state, local, and client compliance standards. This role serves as the operational compliance expert, driving accuracy, consistency, and an exceptional employee experience.

Oversee compliance for leave, accommodation, and disability programs (FMLA, ADA, STD, LTD, Paid Parental Leave, State PFML).
Lead regulatory interpretation, policy governance, and documentation.
Conduct process audits and implement risk mitigation strategies.
Partner with operations leaders to improve quality and ensure adherence to regulations and client requirements.
Support end‑to‑end workflow optimization and compliance excellence.

Regulatory Compliance & Governance

  • Monitor, interpret, and operationalize requirements for key laws and programs including FMLA, ADAAA, state PFML programs, workers’ compensation intersections, ERISA, and employer‑specific leave plans.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to operational leaders on regulatory updates and their impact on policies, systems, and workflows.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the organization’s leave compliance framework, ensuring consistency across all disability & leave products and services.

Policy & Process Oversight

  • Draft, maintain, and revise policies and SOPs related to leave, accommodations, return‑to‑work, and disability benefit administration.
  • Ensure operational documentation reflects current regulatory expectations and client requirements.
  • Partner with Learning & Development to ensure policy updates are translated into practical tools, training, and job aids for front‑line teams.

Risk Management & Quality Assurance

  • Lead compliance risk assessments within the disability & leave ecosystem, identifying gaps in case handling, communication, documentation, and decision making.
  • Oversee compliance audits, including FMLA timeliness reviews, ADA interactive process adherence, and claim decision accuracy.
  • Investigate escalations, errors, complaints, and potential violations; recommend and drive corrective actions.

Training & Education

  • Develop and deliver compliance training on FMLA/ADA requirements, state leave regulations, documentation standards, and sensitive case-handling practices.
  • Provide regular education to leaders and agents regarding emerging regulatory trends and operational implications.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for complex or ambiguous cases requiring deeper regulatory interpretation.

Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain compliance dashboards, regulatory trackers, and audit results for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports for leadership on trends, root causes, risk exposure, and recommended improvements.
  • Monitor adherence to service-level expectations and regulatory timeframes (e.g., FMLA notices, ADA follow‑up, claims decisions).

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Legal, HR, Operations, Quality, Product, and Client Services to ensure alignment on regulatory interpretations and program changes.
  • Collaborate with IT/product teams on system enhancements that ensure compliant workflows, documentation, and data integrity.
  • Join client meetings or audits as the compliance representative for disability & leave services.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, Compliance, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience in disability, leave of absence, accommodations, or related compliance/regulatory roles.
  • Deep knowledge of FMLA, ADA/ADAAA, state leave laws, PFML programs, and disability benefits (STD/LTD).
  • Experience leading audits, process reviews, and regulatory risk assessments.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and decision‑making skills.


  • Background in large‑scale leave operations, insurance, or third‑party administration.
  • Experience supporting technology-enabled leave or disability products.


  • Expertise in FMLA/ADA/leave regulations

  • Professional certifications such as CEBS, CPDM, FMLA/ADA certification, CRCM, or CCEP (Preferred)
  • Occasional overnight travel and industry conference attendance may be required.
