About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic compliance generalist who is able to help resolve complex issues, approaches relationship management with tact and diplomacy, and is keen to develop their skills across all risk areas. We are looking for a generalist who has a good understanding of the local regulatory framework in Turkey, and has proven experience in compliance-related roles.
Must be fluent in Turkish, with business-level English language ability, and based in Turkey. The successful candidate will report to the Executive team directly.
What You'll Do- Report detailed compliance metrics to the Management Board to provide assurance that the compliance obligations of Uber operations in Turkey are met.
- Define and maintain compliance Key Performance Indicators which align with the Risk Appetite of Uber Turkey.
- Implementing a robust compliance programme, with oversight key risk areas, including but not limited to:
- Screening (Sanctions, PEP).
- Customer Due Diligence (including customer risk rating).
- Know Your Customer.
- Transaction Monitoring - including suspicious activity reporting.
- AML Training and Awareness.
- Maintaining up-to-date AML and Sanctions policies, and applicable procedures.
- Fraud.
- Ethics and Compliance.
- Managing reporting obligations with regulatory authorities, this includes establishing a reporting framework and reviewing and signing off all reports submitted to regulatory bodies within regulatory deadlines.
- Monitor and scrutinise the implementation of risk and compliance policies, escalating relevant risks and dependencies to the Management Board, and providing regular updates on identified trends and risks.
- Conducting risk assessments on new and existing products and launches in the Turkish market.
- Maintaining relationships between the local Turkey Compliance function and all its stakeholders.
- Monitoring policy and process changes throughout the organisation.
Research coming changes to regulation and plan accordingly.
What You'll Need- Minimum five (5) years working in a financial crime-related function for a regulated financial entity.
- To have graduated from a higher education institution, with a minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor degree in Turkey (or abroad if recognized by the council of higher education).
- A good understanding of compliance laws and regulations applicable in Turkey.
- Already have, or have a committed timeline, to obtain a Compliance Officer License (Uyum Görevlisi Lisansı).
- Prior experience reporting suspicious activity reports (SARs).
- Prior experience working in or alongside both a first and a second line of defence team, product teams, and engineering teams, to guide risk and compliance-related changes.
- An ability to simply articulate complex ideas in person, in meetings, and in writing.
- An ability to identify risk-based approaches to solving risk and compliance issues.
- The ability to work under pressure and under your own initiative.
- The ability to translate, articulate and present highly technical and complex procedural recommendations, regulations, laws and policies to a variety of audiences.
- Strong change management skills, adept at working in an environment of shifting priorities, constant technological changes and increasingly stringent regulatory requirements.
Management experience, as the team is expected to grow with additional direct reports.
Bonus Points If- Professional experience in law, risk management, or another area with relevance to financial crime compliance.
- A professional or postgraduate qualification/ accreditation in financial crime compliance or risk management is advantageous (CTMA, CAMS, CGSS, CCAS).
- Working knowledge of risk management frameworks.
- Experience working for a fintech and/or knowledge of the e-commerce industry.
- Relevant experience engaging with or exposure to:
- Turkish Central Bank (TCMB).
- Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK).
- Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK - Mali Suçlar Araştırma Kurulu)
- Knowledge of SQL is a plus
