JOB DESCRIPTION – COMPLIANCE OFFICER
Location: GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Reporting to: Board of Directors.
Role description: Compliance officer for a Treasury Centre set-up in a GIFT IFSC who will be responsible for:
Ensuring that compliance of policies, procedures, maintenance of records and the implementation of the requirements as specified under the IFSC regulations, SEZ regulations applicable to the company as well as any other applicable regulations.
Ensuring compliance with the risk management policy of the company, including the procedures and systems to identify, measure, monitor and manage the range of risks that the company is exposed to.
Ensuring compliance with the company’s policy for undertaking permissible activities
Approval process for undertaking permissible activities including delegation of powers;
Financial limits for undertaking permissible activities;
Procedure for oversight/ audit of permissible activities;
Any other relevant control mechanisms based on the nature of activity undertaken.
Conducting periodic compliance risk assessments, identify potential gaps, and ensure timely corrective actions
Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, increase transparency, and enhance issue identification through relevant metrics and reporting.
Build infrastructure, systems, and processes for GIFT City compliances and overall risk management.
Prepare and submit all mandatory reports, regulatory returns, and statutory filings to the IFSCA, GIFT SEZ authorities (e.g., Monthly/Annual Performance Reports, SERF), and other relevant bodies within prescribed timelines.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the IFSCA and other regulatory/statutory authorities during examinations, inspections, and for routine correspondence.
Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all compliance records and statutory registers.
Oversee the implementation of the Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CFT), and Know Your Customer (KYC) programs for all cross-border client transactions.
Keep abreast of new and evolving regulatory trends and assess their impact on the business.
Reporting to the Board of Directors in connection with the above requirements.
Qualifications:
Educational qualifications:
A professionally qualified Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), Cost and Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or any other equivalent qualifications from professional bodies or institutes; or
Post-graduate degree in finance, accountancy, business management, commerce, economics, taxation or a degree in law from a university or an institution recognized by the UGC or AICTE or such other equivalent authority in India or a foreign jurisdiction.
Work experience:
Minimum of 10 (ten) years’ relevant experience, of which, minimum 3 (three) years’ experience in compliance/risk management, particularly in securities law or financial regulatory compliance.
Experience in handling regulatory inspections and audits independently.
Prior experience handling compliance for an entity operating under the IFSCA or SEZ framework is preferred.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of IFSCA, SEZ, RBI, FEMA and PMLA regulations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong drafting abilities for policies and regulatory documents.
Ability to liaise effectively with regulators and handle audits independently
Strong ethical standards, integrity, and a risk-management mindset.
