The Utah Department of Commerce, Division of Consumer Protection, has a vacancy on our registration team and seeks a hardworking, organized, and detail-oriented person.

  • Training will take place in the office. If eligibility requirements are met, teleworking 2 days/per week will be available.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, your responsibilities will include guiding businesses through the Division's registration process, interpreting registration requirements, and providing information to the businesses and the public on relevant statutes and rules.
You will need to demonstrate the capacity to quickly acquire expertise in applicable processes, policies, laws, regulations, and rules.


Key Responsibilities


Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:

  • Accurately and efficiently reviewing, analyzing, and processing initial and renewal registration applications.
  • Answering inquiries from businesses and individuals regulated by the Division. These entities include, but aren't limited to, fitness centers, pawn shops, maintenance funding providers, telephone solicitors , professional fundraisers, and more.
  • Interpreting, clarifying, explaining and applying relevant statutes and rules for businesses, registered individuals, the public and colleagues in person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Responding promptly to calls and emails. This requires the ability to communicate clearly and competently orally and in writing.
  • Preparing correspondence, reports, documents, and other written materials.
  • Providing support for other Division operations, such as investigations, public outreach, and other activities as assigned.

  • Aptitude for learning new software quickly and effectively.

  • Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex issues effectively.
  • Proficiency in information gathering, processing, and analysis.
  • Proactive approach to work and a strong work ethic.


Qualifications

Minimum or "day-one" qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent and professional customer service.
  • Strong organizational skills with the aptitude to handle administrative and office support tasks efficiently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and thoroughness when reviewing information.
  • Proficient in using standard office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workspace.

Preferred or trainable/on-the-job qualifications:

  • Experience interpreting and applying relevant laws and regulations.
  • Prior experience with registration laws, filing requirements, and/or administrative rules.

  • DHRM rules apply for promotions/transfers.
  • Effective July 1, 2021, in-state work rules require all work to be performed while physically within the state’s borders.

  • As a condition of employment with the Department of Commerce, employees shall receive compensatory time off in lieu of payment in cash for all overtime worked under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
