Job Summary:
The College of Architecture, Art, and Design at Ajman University is seeking a Computational Design Engineer – Lab Supervisor to oversee and manage the college’s computational design lab and the digital fabrication lab. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting students and faculty in utilizing advanced design and modeling software, digital fabrication, 3D printing, maintaining lab operations, managing software installations, and conducting training sessions and workshops.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Support: Assist and support students in using computational design software, including but not limited to Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Grasshopper, 3ds Max , and other relevant applications.
- Lab Maintenance: Ensure the proper functioning of all lab equipment, computers, and peripherals. Regularly update software, troubleshoot issues, and maintain optimal performance of the lab environment.
- Software Installation & Management: Manage and install the necessary software for computational design applications, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements and university policies.
- Faculty Support: Assist faculty members with software-related needs, provide guidance on integrating computational tools into coursework, and support research initiatives that require digital modeling and simulation.
- Training & Workshops: Develop and conduct training sessions and workshops for students and faculty on computational design tools, digital fabrication techniques, and emerging technologies in architecture and design.
- Technology Advancement: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in computational design tools, and digital fabrication, techniques, and industry trends. Recommend and implement new technologies to enhance the lab’s capabilities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with faculty, researchers, and students to support academic projects and ensure the effective use of digital tools in architectural and design education.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computational Design, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Design, or a related field .
- Strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Grasshopper, 3ds Max , and other computational design and rendering tools.
- Experience in 3D printing, lab management, software installation, and IT support within an academic or professional environment.
- Prior experience in conducting workshops, training sessions, or teaching in computational design software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to software and hardware.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and train both students and faculty.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with parametric design, generative design, and digital fabrication techniques .
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C#, or scripting within design software , 3D printing, Laser cutting.
- Experience in integrating AI and machine learning applications in computational design.
