About the Role:

The Computer Scientist leads the design, development, and deployment of advanced software systems and computational solutions to support and modernize sustainment operations. They build and integrate intelligent applications, leveraging cutting-edge AI/ML technologies to enhance system performance and operational readiness. They lead data gathering, cleansing, and exploration, utilizing a variety of advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to uncover trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement. This role also involves architecting scalable systems and algorithms that support data-driven decision-making. The position supports enterprise-level NAVAIR sustainment initiatives, including the Supply Chain Illumination Platform Risk (SCIPR) and Maintenance Center of Excellence (MxCOE) programs. Collaborating with cross-functional teams and leadership, the Computer Scientist drives the development of technically sound and impactful solutions, translating complex concepts into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.

Must have:

  • 5+ years of experience in web development using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and C#
  • Experience building and integrating with REST APIs and backend services
  • Familiarity with modern front-end best practices, performance optimization, and responsive design
  • Strong experience with SQL and working with structured data
  • Exposure to cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure); GovCloud experience a plus
  • Comfortable working with pre-trained ML models and integrating services like OpenAI APIs or vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, FAISS, Weaviate)
  • At least 5 years of experience analyzing data to solve complex problems and run frequent excursion requests from senior leadership
  • Ability to obtain a secret security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or related technical field

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with embedding models and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
  • Familiarity with Python-based machine learning tools, such as scikit-learn or TensorFlow (no model training required)
  • Exposure to vector databases (e.g., FAISS, Pinecone, Weaviate) and integrating them into web applications
  • Experience developing AI-powered or data-driven user interfaces
  • Background in statistical modeling, data mining, or using ML algorithms to inform application features
  • Familiarity with secure cloud environments, particularly AWS GovCloud, and deploying solutions in government or compliance-heavy environments
  • Understanding of data privacy, security protocols, and DoD compliance (e.g., DISA STIGs, IL4/IL5)
  • Prior experience with NAVAIR, NAWCAD, or related Navy aviation systems such as:
  • NAMP, DECKPLATE, OOMA, AMSRR, RSUPPLY, AFAST, ACES, TFMMS, SHARP/MSHARP, PSILS, ASM
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Navy aviation maintenance, logistics, or fleet operations
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or custom dashboards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Relevant cloud certifications, such as AWS GovCloud certification or equivalent
