The Law Enforcement Records Bureau gathers, analyzes, and disseminates criminal justice data used by New Mexico law enforcement, criminal justice, corrections, courts, and civil agencies to ensure public safety. The bureau maintains complete and accurate records and responds to the needs of the public, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies providing support and customer engagement through our many applications, programs, and services to achieve the mission objectives.

Why does the job exist?
This position performs highly confidential work for the Concealed Carry Unit (CCU) within the Law Enforcement Records Bureau (LERB). Responsibilities include processing and maintaining Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) applications, conducting fingerprint-based background checks, researching multiple databases, and issuing licenses to qualified applicants.
The role also involves processing and maintaining financial and background check records, entering data into information systems, and ensuring accuracy of all entries. Additional duties include but are not limited to responding to customer inquiries and complaints, providing information on department services, and preparing and verifying statistical reports for accuracy.
How does it get done?
1. Review and apply New Mexico Statutes Annotated (NMSA 29-19-1 through 29-19-15) and New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC
10.8.2.1 through
10.8.2.32) to process Concealed Carry applications. This includes verifying submitted documents, conducting background checks, issuing approvals, and generating incomplete letters when needed. Compile application materials for Senior Analyst review when a denial or suspension is required. Maintain NCIC certification to perform required duties.
2. Respond to Concealed Carry emails daily and answer phone calls as needed. Process cash deposits, when applicable, in accordance with NMSA 6-10-3.Prepare denial packets when disqualifying factors are identified.
3. Prepare hearing packets when requested by an applicant in accordance with NMAC
10.8.2.27.
4. Continue professional development by mentoring and assisting Basic Analysts while training toward Advanced Analyst responsibilities.

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and fingerprinting in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations; and is conditional pending results. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony free, per Section
5.12.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy.
In addition, the selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a current Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico; or pass and receive the Defensive Driving Certificate within six (6) months of date of hire.
Working Conditions
Office setting, exposure to visual/video display terminal and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. Occasional community outreach/engagement efforts at off site venues.
Subject to a national fingerprint-based record checks prior to assignment. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony free, per FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy v 6.0.
