Job Description:

The Nebraska State Patrol Criminal Identification Division is offering a position for someone just like you.

As part of the Concealed Handgun permits team, you will process initial and renewal concealed handgun permit (CHP) applications. This includes determining eligibility for the permit by reviewing criminal history record information for potential disqualifiers, corresponding with applicants and various criminal justice agencies, issuing permits and refunds as appropriate.

Processes Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) applications and renewals. Processes criminal and non-criminal records by requesting, accepting, processing, and verifying information from arresting agencies and court dispositions, utilizing the Patrol Criminal History and other criminal justice databases. Uses analytical skills to research, interpret, and apply laws and regulations. Under limited supervision, uses independent judgment to make legal determinations. Assists with incoming phone calls from the public.


Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications : Coursework/training or experience related to research, presentation, or publication in an area related to the programs or functions of the employing agency; business administration; accounting; customer service; and/ or technical support work, including use of computer software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.

Preferred Qualifications : Knowledge of criminal justice databases; research experience, and application of law. Coursework in criminal justice/criminology, paralegal studies, corrections, political science, or law enforcement.

Other : Regular and reliable attendance is expected. Applicant must successfully complete an extensive background screening prior to being employed, which includes completion of a Personal History Questionnaire. Applicants will be screened for a record of criminal activity and criminal history using a fingerprint-based check before conditional employment is offered. Applicants must be free of felony convictions, and cannot maintain a continuous association or dealings with persons, groups or organizations under criminal investigation or indictment or who have a reputation for present or ongoing involvement in criminal behavior. Ability to perform basic to intermediate computer functions. Communicating in person as well as via telephone, email, and in writing. Customer service and de-escalation skills highly preferred. Analytical skills and attention to detail is a must! Coursework, training or experience in administrative and office processes and procedures and associated computer applications such as word processing, file management, record keeping, and database management; customer service processes and principles; active listening; asking questions; understanding instructions; managing time and priorities; applying critical thinking techniques; communicating and exchanging information; interpreting and applying policies, procedures, and regulations; tracking and monitoring information; retrieving information from a variety of sources; and maintaining confidential records.
