Job Title: Conflict Check Analyst / Legal Assistant

Position Summary:

Magna Legal Services is seeking a detail-oriented Conflict Check Analyst / Legal Assistant to join our team. In this role, you’ll play a critical part in protecting the firm and our clients by identifying potential conflicts of interest before engagements move forward. You’ll conduct research, analyze risk, and communicate directly with attorneys, consultants, and sales teams to ensure every matter meets the highest ethical and professional standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys investigative research, thrives on detail, and wants exposure to the business and legal side of professional services. The ideal candidate will be comfortable searching internal and external databases to identify potential conflicts of interest and clearly reporting findings to decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough conflict checks on potential new matters, including reviewing parties, related entities, prior engagements, and internal databases.
  • Research and analyze potential conflicts, escalating findings to supervising attorneys, consultants, sales, or compliance teams.
  • Search, compare, and evaluate information from internal databases, client systems, corporate registries, public records, litigation databases, and external research tools (corporate registries, court dockets, LexisNexis, Westlaw, PACER, etc.).
  • Communicate findings and clarifications directly with internal sales teams and consultants to ensure all necessary information is accurate and complete before matters proceed.
  • Collaborate with sales to confirm client details, entity names, and other engagement information relevant to conflict analysis.
  • Maintain, update, and organize conflict check records and databases to ensure accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Prepare conflict check reports and summaries for internal review and decision-making.
  • Assist in developing and refining conflict check procedures, templates, and best practices.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with ethical rules, firm policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Support other compliance-related administrative functions as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify, assess, and resolve conflicts of interest.
  • Some knowledge of legal terminology, litigation processes, and ethical standards regarding conflicts.
  • Proficiency in conducting advanced searches across internal firm systems and external databases (corporate filings, court dockets, LexisNexis, Westlaw, PACER, or similar platforms).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys, consultants, and sales teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to balance multiple conflict check requests simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and reliable, with the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
  • Team-player who can maintain positive interpersonal relationships in the workplace
  • Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Prior experience with conflict check processes, compliance, or risk management is helpful.
  • Law firm, legal services, or professional services experience is a plus.

Compensation: USD $50,000 - $60,000 per year.

An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, travel requirements, revenue-based metrics, any contractual agreements, and business or organizational needs. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
