Construction Accountant

Position Summary

The Construction Accountant is responsible for managing accounting functions related to CP3 Construction’s project operations and company financial records. This role supports accurate job costing, financial reporting, billing, subcontractor payments, and project cost monitoring.

The position works closely with project managers, field leadership, and administrative staff to ensure project costs are accurately tracked and financial records are maintained in accordance with company procedures and industry standards.

This role requires prior experience in construction accounting, including job cost tracking, progress billing, contract documentation, and coordination with project operations.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesA) Job Cost Accounting & Project Cost Tracking

Maintain job cost accounting records for all active projects.

Track project expenses including:

  • Labor costs Materials and equipment Subcontractor costs Change orders and adjustments

Review project cost data for accuracy and alignment with approved budgets.

Prepare and maintain job cost reports to support project managers and leadership in monitoring project performance.

Assist in identifying cost overruns, budget variances, and financial trends across projects.

B) Construction Billing & Contract Accounting

Prepare and manage construction billing processes including:

  • Progress billing Time and materials billing Contract-based invoicing Retainage tracking

Maintain project billing schedules and ensure invoices are submitted in accordance with contract requirements.

Track change orders and ensure billing adjustments are properly documented and processed.

Monitor accounts receivable related to project billing and coordinate follow-up on outstanding invoices.

C) Accounts Payable & Vendor Payment Coordination

Review and process vendor and subcontractor invoices.

Ensure invoices align with purchase orders, contracts, and approved project costs.

Coordinate subcontractor payments in accordance with payment terms and project cash flow.

Maintain vendor files including contracts, insurance documentation, and lien releases when applicable.

D) Financial Reporting & Project Financial Analysis

Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and accounting reports.

Generate project financial reports including:

  • Job cost summaries Project profitability reports Budget vs actual comparisons Cost trend analysis

Provide financial data and reports to leadership to support operational and financial decision-making.

E) Payroll & Labor Cost Coordination

Coordinate with payroll administration to ensure labor hours are accurately allocated to project cost codes.

Support labor cost tracking and reporting related to job costing.

Assist with documentation related to labor cost allocation when required.

F) Accounting Compliance & Documentation

Maintain organized accounting documentation for contracts, invoices, payments, and project financial records.

Support accounting compliance with company financial policies and accounting standards.

Assist with preparation of documentation needed for audits, insurance reviews, and financial reporting.

Ensure financial records are maintained accurately and securely.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience, with experience in construction accounting strongly preferred.

Working knowledge of:

  • Job costing Construction billing processes Contract accounting Accounts payable and receivable processes Financial reporting

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.

Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, field leadership, and administrative staff.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
