Construction Accountant

We are seeking an experienced Construction Accountant to join our team on the night shift. This role requires deep knowledge of construction accounting principles and hands-on experience with bookkeeping, job costing, WIP reporting, payroll, and compliance. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working closely with project managers and field staff.

Note: The candidate must also be willing to support tasks outside of their core accounting responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

General Accounting & Bookkeeping

• Record all financial transactions (AP/AR)
• Reconcile bank and credit card statements
• Manage construction-specific chart of accounts
• Prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow)

Job Costing & Project Accounting

• Track costs by job (labor, materials, subs, equipment)
• Allocate overhead properly
• Analyze estimated vs. actual costs to ensure profitability

Work-in-Progress (WIP) Reporting

• Maintain WIP schedules (percent completion, billing status, revenue)
• Regularly update job statuses with PMs or estimators

Payroll & Certified Payroll

• Process employee payroll
• File and pay payroll taxes (federal, state, local)

Invoicing & Billing

• Manage progress billing (AIA or custom schedules)

Vendor Management & Subcontractor Compliance

• Issue 1099s, collect W-9s
• Track insurance, licenses, lien waivers
• Verify sub billing against contracts/POs

Tax Preparation Support

• Organize records for CPA/tax preparer
• Provide year-end financials and schedules
• Apply sales/use tax rules

Preferred Software Experience:

• QuickBooks Desktop (Contractor Edition) / QuickBooks Online
• Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

Soft Skills & Qualifications:

• Deep understanding of construction operations & terminology
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent communication with PMs, field staff, and owners
• Proactive problem-solver
• Familiarity with GAAP and construction revenue recognition

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
• Ability to interpret and analyze financial statements and periodicals

Shift: 9:00 PM – 6:00 AM
Experience Required: 5+ Years in Construction Accounting
