United Electrical Contractors is a growing electrical contracting company specializing in commercial, residential, and generator installations throughout Rhode Island. As our company continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Construction Bookkeeper to bring structure, accuracy, and accountability to our financial systems.
This is a part-time position (20–30 hours per week) with the potential to grow into a full-time role. The right candidate will play a critical role in helping us maintain accurate job costing, improve financial visibility, and support continued company growth.
Position Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive bookkeeper with construction experience who understands contractor accounting and QuickBooks job costing. This position will take ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping functions and help improve internal financial systems.
This role is ideal for someone who has worked with contractors before and understands how proper job costing directly impacts profitability.
Responsibilities
- Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Ensure customer payments are applied correctly
- Code and enter vendor bills to the appropriate jobs
- Maintain accurate job cost reporting
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger
- Assist with payroll processing and labor allocation by job
- Track project costs against estimates
- Prepare monthly financial reports (P&L, Job Cost Reports, AR Aging)
- Coordinate with CPA for year-end reporting
- Improve bookkeeping workflows and internal controls
Qualifications
- 3+ years bookkeeping experience (construction industry strongly preferred)
- Strong QuickBooks experience required (job costing knowledge essential)
- Understanding of contractor accounting principles
- Experience with progress billing and retainage preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of processes
- Professional handling of confidential financial information
