Construction Bookkeeper /Project Accountant

Wolf Haven Company Earthworks is a licensed General Engineering ('A') and C-12 contractor specializing in grading, demolition, underground wet utilities, and land development projects. We operate in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment with multiple active public and private jobs.

Position Overview

This role is responsible for managing job cost accounting, Schedule of Values (SOV) tracking, progress billing, subcontractor compliance, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate understands construction contracts, lien waivers, retention, and project cash flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate job cost tracking by cost code
  • Reconcile job budgets vs. actuals
  • Monitor committed costs and change orders
  • Track equipment cost allocation and internal charges
  • Prepare and submit AIA progress billings
  • Manage Schedule of Values (SOV)
  • Track percent complete and WIP reporting
  • Process change orders (CORs / PCOs)
  • Follow up on AR collections and retention
  • Process subcontractor and vendor invoices
  • Verify conditional & unconditional lien waivers
  • Track insurance certificates & compliance documents
  • Manage retention payable tracking
  • Assist with 1099 preparation
  • Track labor burden and job allocation
  • Prepare monthly financial reports
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting
  • Assist with QuickBooks management

Qualifications

  • 2+ years bookkeeping/accounting experience in construction
  • Strong understanding of Schedule of Values (SOV), Work-in-Progress (WIP), retention, and lien waivers
  • Experience with lump sum and cost-plus contracts
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
  • Strong communication skills with GCs, vendors, and project managers
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and advanced Excel (pivot tables, job cost tracking)

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with heavy civil, grading, or underground utility projects
  • Familiarity with public works billing
  • Knowledge of California preliminary notice and lien requirements
