OUR POSITION
The Construction Inspector is responsible for ensuring public works and capital projects are constructed in compliance with plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements. Under general supervision, this position conducts detailed inspections of construction sites, evaluates materials and workmanship, monitors contractor compliance, and prepares comprehensive project reports. As a liaison between the City, contractors, engineers, and property owners, the Construction Inspector plays a critical role in maintaining quality standards, addressing issues that arise, and ensuring the projects meet safety and performance standards. This position requires initiative, independent judgment, and the ability to handle complex situations with tact and professionalism.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for the Construction Inspector role will have extensive technical knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations, including federal, state, and local laws. They will be skilled at conducting detailed inspections of public works and capital projects, ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical abilities to interpret construction plans and documents, make sound recommendations, and effectively utilize tools and techniques for testing, surveying, and inspection. With exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, they will be capable of drafting precise inspection reports and maintaining thorough project records. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills to engage professionally with contractors, City staff, and external stakeholders while exhibiting adaptability and judgment to address dynamic field conditions. Their expertise and dedication will uphold the highest standards of quality and compliance for the City's construction projects.
Minimum Qualifications
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and two years of experience in construction inspection or six years of trades experience working on large public works construction projects; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
