Position Overview

Our client is seeking an accomplished Construction Materials Department Manager to lead their Construction Materials Testing (CMT) group. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with strong leadership, technical expertise, and a passion for driving operational excellence and business growth. You will oversee laboratory and field operations, ensure quality standards, mentor technical staff, and contribute to client development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the full lifecycle of CMT/Field Services projects and laboratory operations.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, project managers, and field/lab technicians.
  • Ensure adherence to CMT best practices, safety regulations, and quality control standards.
  • Conduct technical reviews of proposals, reports, and engineering calculations.
  • Oversee departmental financials, including budgets, forecasts, and revenue tracking.
  • Establish group goals and advance staff development through training and coaching.
  • Partner with senior leadership on business development, including client engagement and community involvement.
  • Foster a positive, high-performance culture aligned with company values.

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution (required)
  • MS in Civil Engineering (preferred)

  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 8 years of related engineering experience (lab testing, construction observation, site grading, QA/QC, and CMT supervision)
  • 4 years of experience with a military background may be considered

  • Leadership: At least 2 years of people management experience (may be waived with military background)
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong technical knowledge of testing procedures and industry specifications
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills
  • Proven experience with departmental budgets, forecasting, and financial oversight

Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
