Construction Materials Laboratory Technician

Michael Baker International’s Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators and safety experts. As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects.

What We're Looking For:

Michael Baker is seeking a Construction Materials Laboratory Technician to join our team in Louisville! The Technician will perform laboratory testing and analysis of construction materials to verify compliance with project specifications, standards, and quality requirements. This position supports quality assurance operations by producing accurate, documented test results in accordance with applicable testing standards.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform laboratory testing on construction materials including concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, and related materials
  • Prepare, cure, and test specimens such as concrete cylinders and asphalt samples in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, or agency standards
  • Conduct material tests including compressive strength, gradation, moisture, density, air content, slump, and other physical properties
  • Accurately record, analyze, and review test data; prepare laboratory reports and documentation
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and clean laboratory testing equipment and instruments
  • Verify test results meet project specifications, standards, and acceptance criteria
  • Maintain laboratory safety practices, cleanliness, quality control procedures, and sample traceability
  • Coordinate with field personnel regarding sample receipt, testing requirements, and reporting needs

What You Need to Succeed:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience in laboratory or construction materials testing
  • Ability to follow standardized testing procedures and maintain accurate records
  • Aggregate, asphalt, or soils testing certifications (KYTC, INDOT, ODOT, NICET, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO testing standards
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and report preparation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a quality assurance team

Compensation:

The approximate compensation range for this position is $22/hr - $32/hr. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
