About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
About the position
The Consular and Passport Officer manages the provision of consular, passport and notarial services to Australian citizens in Iran and other countries of Ankara Embassy’s accreditation in accordance with departmental guidelines. The position supports consular enquiries and will be required to provide on the ground consular support including arrests/detentions, hospitalisations, medical evacuations, deaths, and whereabouts cases of Australian citizens.

Responses to the selection criteria should be submitted in English, but at least one the selection criteria response should be in written in Farsi to assess the language level.
A. Well-developed written and oral communication skills in English and Farsi, and the proven ability to communicate empathetically and clearly with people from diverse backgrounds.
B. Effective judgement and decision-making skills with a demonstrated ability to apply legislation and policies.
C. Strong administrative skills, including good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and filing systems in accordance with policies and procedures.
D. Experience in building and sustaining effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
E. Ability to take initiative, set priorities and organise work effectively and efficiently, completing projects and assignments with limited supervision.
