The Exemption Certificate Management (“ECM”) Consultant performs sales and use tax exemption certificate collection, validation, storage, and reporting for Ryan clients. The ECM During the performance of his or her duties, the ECM Consultant will be required to exercise regular discretion and independent judgement based on his or her familiarity with multistate sales and use tax exemption certificate laws, regulations, and publications. Further, the ECM Consultant will be required to make decisions about sales and use tax certificates by first comparing and evaluating possible courses of action after considering various possibilities. The ECM Consultant will also interact with all levels of the team (Consultants, Managers, and Principals) and will frequently correspond with clients via email and telephone while performing his or her duties.

Consults and advises clients on exemption certificate requirements and necessary remediation steps. Corresponds with Ryan client customers regarding various exemption certificates matters

Utilizes ControlPoint software for retrieval and evaluation of exemption certificates.

Integration of ControlPoint technology into client processes.

ControlPoint training for clients as needed.

Using ControlPoint Exemption Certificate Management Software, the ECM Consultant will perform the following duties:
-
Ensures effective onboard process for new exemption certificate outsource clients
-
Develops and implements continuous process improvements regarding exemption certificate collections, validations and reporting. Prepares end to end exemption certificate collection, validation, and reporting process narratives and diagrams showing the compliance process flow.

Evaluates jurisdictional statutes and determines validity of exemption certificate
-
Strong communication and people skills required to convey conclusions and decisions to clients with finesse and professionalism. Corresponds with Ryan clients to explain the status of exemption certificates (e.g., valid, missing, wrong form, no signature, no registration number).

Generates daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports on exemption certificate review activity

Demonstrates sound understanding and knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax exemption certificate laws

Performs exemption certificate requirements research

Prepares and updates agendas for client and team status calls

Provides support for client billings
-
Other duties as requested.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, and up to 3 years of government compliance experience. In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, the position requires 10 years of experience with government compliance related matters.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate skills in Microsoft® Word, Excel, and familiarity with PowerPoint, Outlook; and Internet navigation and research.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid driver’s license required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities but may be required to supervise other resources as the exemption certificate outsource service grows.
Work Environment:
- Standard indoor working environment.
- Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
- Position requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the Firm in person and via e-mail and telephone.
- Position requires regular interaction with clients and interface with external vendors in person and via e-mail and telephone.
- Independent travel requirement: Up to 10-20%.
Compensation
For certain Texas based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $62,000 - $80,850.
