The Consultant Neurologist will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders of the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. The role involves providing expert clinical care, guiding neurological investigations, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Conduct outpatient and inpatient consultations for patients with neurological symptoms or disorders.
  • Diagnose and treat conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, neuropathies, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Perform and interpret neurological examinations and relevant tests.
  • Oversee acute neurological care, including emergency stroke management (if applicable).
  • Provide follow-up care and long-term management plans.

Procedures & Diagnostics

  • Interpret EEG, EMG, NCS, MRI, CT, and other neurodiagnostic tests.
  • Guide and supervise neurophysiology procedures as required.
  • Offer expertise in advanced diagnostic techniques and treatment modalities.

Coordination & Teamwork

  • Collaborate with neurosurgeons, intensivists, rehabilitation teams, and other specialties for comprehensive care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, case discussions, and clinical reviews.
  • Support emergency and on-call services on a rotational basis.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital policies, NABH standards, medical ethics, and legal requirements.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and morbidity/mortality meetings.

Patient Education & Counselling

  • Provide clear communication about diagnosis, treatment options, risks, and prognoses.
  • Educate patients and their families on preventive care and disease management.

Training & Development

  • Train junior doctors, nursing staff, and technicians in neurology-related protocols.
  • Participate in CMEs, clinical teaching programs, and medical conferences.

Qualifications & Skills

Educational Qualifications

  • MBBS from a recognized university.
  • MD / DNB in General Medicine.
  • DM / DNB in Neurology (mandatory).

Experience

  • 0–5+ years experience as Consultant or Senior Resident in Neurology.
  • Experience in acute stroke management and neurodiagnostics preferred.
