Position purpose:
The Content Specialist is a creative storyteller and proactive communicator capable of utilizing a variety of media—press releases, written stories, website copy, email and newsletter copy, graphics, social media/video, etc.—to deliver compelling content across platforms. This role supports University-wide content marketing strategy by producing engaging written and visual content for colleges, initiatives, people features, website discoverability and social engagement, being accountable for the full content lifecycle, from research and planning to creation, optimization and performance analysis. The ideal candidate is a go-getter with strong communication skills and a passion for amplifying messages for maximum impact to achieve marketing goals and reach targeted audiences.
Essential Functions:
1. Craft compelling, high-quality written and multimedia stories highlighting university colleges, initiatives, programs and individuals. Identify and deliver stories that serve recruitment, retention, brand-building and development goals. Ensure all content is delivered on time and in compliance with University brand and style guidelines.
2. Seek content amplification through external and internal outlets. Partner with content team to discover media opportunities, write press releases and pitch media coverage for assigned areas. Develop social media photo, video and graphic assets to support storytelling and amplify messaging.
3. Conduct keyword research and content gap analysis to inform the editorial calendar and content strategy in assigned areas. Implement on-page SEO best practices, such as optimizing titles, meta descriptions, headings and internal links for priority website pages. Conduct regular content audits to identify and update underperforming content to improve its search visibility and user engagement.
4. Collaborate with departments and stakeholders to gather information, seeking to become the lead content marketing expert for assigned colleges/initiatives. Assist in maintaining a content calendar and ensuring timely delivery of materials.
5. Keep up-to-date on content marketing best practices, seeking continuous improvement and ongoing professional development to advance institutional marketing results.

Required Education
Bachelor's degree in PR, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field.
